First, no. not every 944 has an LSD.

second, spin the wheels with the car in the air. if both go the same way, it has an LSD.

third, welcome to the department of redundancy department with your LSD Diff.

Nope. It is was a pricey and somewhat rare option.

Simple to find out if you have it though. Spin one wheel, the other should turn in the same direction if you have lsd. The opposite direction if you have anormal open diff.

it's been my experience that LSD's in the snow suck... when the rear goes, it goes, in a big way. my 924S w/o the LSD is great in the snow, but my turbo sucks... but that could also be attributed to the fact that it has really wide racing slicks on it too...

you are right lsd sucks in the snow regardless of tires. I had pretty pricey pirelli 265/35/18 snowsports and they were useless...

I tried the spin-one-wheel test for an lsd but on mine the other wheel didn't move at all no matter which way I spun or if I switched sides. What does that mean? I'm guessing its an open diff.

idk. My LSD has never given me one peep of trouble the few times the car saw snow early in life. Of course it had snow tires and a little weight in the trunk. I am sure that helped.

If you still have your options decal in the trunk I am sure you can decode it. I forgot the code for an LSD trans at the moment.

Interesting that you guys had bad luck with the LSD in the snow... I was glad to have mine during the big snows we got this winter, and I had really crappy tires at the same time. Seems like it kept me from getting stuck a couple of times.
