Just to follow up on this thread, I was in the process of having done what the original poster suggested when this thread was posted. That is, performing a rear seat delete by covering of the bottom half of the back seat with carpet. Here is the result:

I took the seat base to a local upholstery shop run by a German lady. I said I wanted it covered in carpet in a very similar manner to how the vinyl covers it. She said, "sure, like the club sport option on the 968." Cost me just under $200 Canadian and probably saved me a months worth of my own time trying to figure it out myself. The carpet is actually trunk liner that was selected to match a carpet sample I brought with me to the shop (I had extra carpet, but she said it was too thick to form to the seat base properly). In person it looks near identical. The vinyl was left on the seat base, and scuffed up to help the glue and trunk liner adhere to the surface.

Exactly. Seemed to be the easiest way to deal with that area. The seat base weighs nothing, and it conforms perfectly to that area. I figured why mess with trying to build it up with foam to get a good carpet fit when the factory already did that work for me.

I thought of something after looking at Kuhl's set-up:
I have a very small (like 5x5 inches), high-output amplifier that I could mount in the middle, put this nifty 1.5 Farad capacitor I have above it, and on either side put speakers/woofers where the headrests used to be.
