Default Fuse #7 blowing (Radio)

A few months ago I noticed that the fuse had blown. No big deal, I just replaced it and went on my way. About a month later it blew again. Today it blew again but now when I went to put the fuse back in, I was getting sparks and the fuse blew before I could even get it set in place. I pulled the radio and checked the wiring for anything that might be shorting and it looked ok. It looks like this fuse also has the interior lights on it and the lighter. Anywhere in particular I should start checking? Thanks!!

Did you try installing a new fuse with the radio disconnected?

Duh... that would be a good way to see if the radio is the culprit. Thanks!!

Isn't the cig lighter on the same circuit? My lighter kept shorting out and blowing the fuse, my radio wouldn't work.

Check your Ciggy lighter to make sure everythings ok with that.

If its a problem with the wriring, pulling the radio would do nothing.

The connector to the glove box light is precariously close to ground (dashboard frame), which I after many blown fuses eventually found out.

Is the glovebox light on the same circuit? It still works even with the fuse blown... maybe I found the culprit. Time to pull that out I guess.

I pulled the lighter out and everythign inside the lighter looks ok. (Not that it could happen on this car but no pennies stuck inside or anything, LOL) Is there a way to pull the lighter out without removing the center console?

Just did mine yesterday. If you have an early car, you have to, because there is a clip in behind that holds the female part of the lighter in.

What a PITA the lighter is to plug back in when reinstalling everything... anyways found the short... the hot wire for the light in the trunk lost the tape I put over the end of it when removing the interior and it was shorting out on the chassis. Got some heat shrink wrappers and problem solved. Now I have a new problem, the fan comes on as soon as the key is moved to the on position.
