944 S2 downshift problem
#3
Try it at a slower speed - 5th gear is good down to about 40MPH, just let off the gas and let the 5th gear slow the car down and then try to downshift.
Or if you must...let the car slow to 40 and pull it out of 5th into neutral. Bring the engine to about 2200 RPM and powershift it. You might get some unhappy noise but it should synch up pretty quickly.

Since this is a "shifting gears" thread.....
I have an 1991 S2, and a couple of times while hard accelerating there is a resistance to shift into 2nd gear (fast shifting)
1st, acceleration.... push cluch shift into 2nd... then release the cluch pedal (sound from the gears like the second gear is not meshed properly) again pushing of the cluch and then do the same things in a softer way and there is no problem at all.
And i have experienced my self a resistange once, while downshifting (i think it was from 4th to 3rd...)
Do i need to check something on the gearbox? any thoughts?

It could be a simple fix or adjustment. If this is your first exposure to 944 series cars it might be worth taking it into a Porsche mech. It could be the lever is worn out and needs replaced (along with the bushing and washer) or the mechanism in the back on the trans needs adjusted.
