Fastest you have gone in your 944
#6
I had my 87 NA up to just over 130 on a slight decline on Rt 84 between exit 2 and 3 in NY. I was racing another 944 NA at the time. It was the last time I drove it. I was dropping it off to the new owner who had just bought it from me. It took a long time to get going that fast and I don't know if it could have if I weren't going down hill. But it was a great final ride in that car. Especially because I got to race another one. Good times.

The automatic is a 3-speed, i had my auto 924S up to about 115mph on the NJ Turnpike early on a sunday morning..and it did take forever.
I had an indicated 130mph in my '87 about two years ago, also on the NJ Turnpike early in the morning. From 80-115mph about in 4th gear the car pulls well, but as soon as you go into 5th (especially with the longer 5th gear) its a slow crawl from 120-134mph. I was probably going slower as i was using 16's as opposed to 15's and i read the speedo is inaccurate (and generous) above 100mph.
If one wanted to actually try and get the book 134mph top speed of the 8v n/a..you would probably need a tail wind, no headlights up, flag mirrors folded in (or aero mirrors), a downhill gradient and a huge stretch of road. I think if i wanted that extra 4mph at 130mph it probably would have taken another two miles!
All of this of course was in my more immature days. I take it to the track now .

150 with my valentine one radar detector defeated by a police officer who paced me.
officer said:
"I was doing 100 and you were still pulling away from me"
thought bubble in my head:
"Yeah, 150mph will do that"
I had a clean record and he was decent guy so I got off pretty easy considering. It also helped that I was an Indiana resident and this happened in Illinois.
The biggest bummer is that I thought I hit top speed at 150 and backed off, turns out 170 might be the case.

Had mine on a county road being chased by some high school kids in a turbo something doing 270 kph....whatever that converts to in mph. Car seemed very stable and ready for more pedal. I ran out of road, and the kids behind me gave up at 220.
I normally drive no more than 20 over though...its too costly in Ontario.
