My G/F dad works at daimler chrysler and when they couldn't get any of the SRT-10 rams off the lots they had the management put miles on em to sell at auction as "used." So he had one for about two months as his DD. I got to drive it a couple of times and that thing was rediculous and completely unnecessary. It's the only automatic i've ever driven that chirps the tires shifting gears. I guess nothing beats displacement.

When you think about it, the ideal sports car and the ideal pickup aren't that different: 2 seats, RWD, manual trans, stiff suspension, lots of motor.

There are alot of things I would want in a good sports car and NOT in a pickup truck, and visa versa.

I think most new trucks are already faster than a stock 944 even a stock 944T, but they don't handle as well though.

I wouldn't go so far as to say they're faster than 951s.

I'm personally a huge fan of the Syclone, and hope to have one in the future in my stable.

...they beat 951s out of the box.

They are the modern day Syclones in my book.

BTW: I just ordered one of these:

Ford Explorer Sport Trac. It will serve double duty as my daily driver and tow vehicle for my track days.

Granted, it weighs over 4,000 lbs, but it's got nearly a 7,000 lb towing capacity.

And, it's got the same 4.6l V8 that they put in the Mustang. Hopefully the exhaust note will be nice. I'll find out in about 8 weeks...

The Ford Lightning is faster than the Dodge, IIRC.

As for getting a truck for towing/track duty I'd probably go for a Titan. Decent towing (10000 I think) and it's a monster of a truck.

If I need to tow more, a Chevy 3500 Diesel is all I want. 19000 pounds of towing. wewt.

The only reason a lightning would be faster stock would be the traction issue with the srt-10. Otherwise the srt-10 is a full second faster in the 1/4, at ~13.8 vs ~14.8 for the lightning.

Ah yes, the GMC Cyclone and the Typhoon, those still are some great sleepers.

The SVT Lightning is a pretty sweet truck. I love the super charger whine coupled with the screaming tires during burn outs. Changing the pulley on that truck makes it sound awesome. I used to work at a Carvel in town and a guy came in with a Lightning once. I told him nice truck and he said to watch him pull out. This guy backed up into the main street at about 10mph, while still rolling in reverse he neutral dropped it and did one of the most spectacular burn outs i have ever seen. The rear end slid within one foot of the curb and as it slid back the other direction he almost side swiped a car pulling up next to him.

Its also a impressively fast truck. I do not condone street racing, but have seen one pull on my friends Evo8 with complete bolt ons from a 15mph roll. I was behind them in a friends car. And ive driven my friends Evo8 many times..and it is stupid fast.

Z-Man, i expect you to be doing big smokey burn outs with your truck also.. .
