maybe a silly question: will 951 springs fit early 944?

Default maybe a silly question: will 951 springs fit early 944?

Is it a worthwhile upgrade if the springs can be had cheap enough? Will they even work? My 83 has the factory sport suspension option. Im about to order some bilsteins F&R plus I already have 86 951 sways F&R. Im just looking for some cheap suspension upgrades =) I'm also installing new balljoints, A arms and weltmeister bushings. thanks!

They will fit as long as they are from a non-M030 86-88, but its not really an upgrade. You are better off spending the money on some Weltmeister springs from Paragon, stick to around 200lbs. Any more than that will necessitate a rate increase in the rear.

Yea, thats what I was figuring...Im not sure I wan t to lower the car an inch and half though...I guess id need to get their spacers to keep the stock ride height. Thanks Tifo

What is the difference in spring rate between NA and Turbo (non M030)? Aren't the turbo ones about 160#?

Sillbeer, I have a set of turbo springs I just took off my S2. Let me know if you're interested. I updated to konis and went with #225 springs.

Maciek, thanks! I'm deciding whether or not to go with the 200's or what. Do you know the spring rates on s2? is it same as 951 @ 160?

The stock 951 springs will also raise the front of an NA nearly 1/2". The turbo spring was longer than the NA to allow for the added weight.

You could cut a coil off the 951 springs to keep the height the same and bump up the spring rate some

Sillber what is your option code? M030, M031, or M456???

If your car is either an 030, or 031, you cannot use them since these cars have adjustable perches.

A great upgrade I found without sacrificing ride height if you fear scraping and bottoming out is Performance Products' H&R 220 lb. springs. Though not as stiff as the 250's they offer a very reasonable sporty feel to the car and do improve the handling noticeably over the factory springs, which I believe are only 160 lbs.

Or you could mount the upper strut support from the top of the fender well with some washers as spacers. Yeah, that's the ticket

Stig,

It doesnt have adjustable perches but it did have the "sport" suspension option with front and rear swaybars. I looked the code up when I got it now I cant remember...Perf. products website said they didnt list h&r sport srings for 83 944?

Sounds like an M456 car to me.

It's the 220 lb. They have them coded as Weltmeister. When I received mine it said H&R on it.

ahhh..I got it now. I think thats the way I'll go..hopefully it wont be too harsh for street. those springs with '86 951 sways, welt bushings, and bhd bilsteins...

No the 220's aren't harsh at all. I havem them on my 944 and daily drive it while tracking it at the same time.

my fiance has weltmeister 200lb springs on her 924s and ride height is no where near too low-drives it daily-no clearance problems- and the ride is not terrible believe me. Seems stock-just less mushy.
