Testing windshield washer pump
Looking to test out a windshield washer pump. There are two wires, a brown and a green. Can I feed a jumper from the battery to one and ground the other to test it out? If so which should I connect to a hot and which should I ground? Just want to make sure it's not a wiring problem before I buy a new pump.

Before you pay $100 for that pump from a dealer, try pep boys. I found the "universal" replacement in stock there for 19.99. It is the same one on a LOT of Audi's and VW's. Those pumps are a bit fragile, there is a gear inside that shears off. If you hear it run and have fluid in the tank, there is your problem.

Dan, Thanks for that tidbit...I think mine is broken as well and would MUCH rather pay 20 than 100+. Of course, the washer pump is not super-high on my list of priorities...

I jumped a hot line to the green wire and the pump started spinning. So it's a wiring problem. Oh joy, oh joy. I changed the steering wheel at around the same time as I noticed the washer pump problem so maybe I knocked something loose.
It worked fine on the drivers side but trickled a little out the passenger side, but I can fix that easy enough.
Well I know what I'll be adding to my list of to do stuff for the weekend.

on a somewhat related note, the tubes for the washers are clogged in my car. pump works, but only a small amount is making it out. any suggestions for unclogging the passages?

Then again, I've never seen a car that all 4 nozzles clogged. Normally, just one or two jets get partially blocked. You may still have a pump failure on your hands. The gear inside can shear off. pump runs, nothing sprays (but a trickle). Unplug the hose from the pump, run the pump. It should shoot quite a ways.
