Default This is absolute bullsh*t... uber-rant (HELP!)

Before reading please consider the following:
a. I purchased this car in may for 3700$
b. Since the purchase I have spend over 7000$ in maitenence and repairs.

also please excuse any and all of my obscene language.

I just returned from my "shop" (which I did trust) and got 2300$ worth of repairs including: changing 2 sets of tires and wheels, power steering lines, clutch master cyl., mud guards, and brake pads. As I am arrivng home from the 2 hour drive I stop at a stopsign and shift from 2nd to 1st. As I release the clutch (slowly) I hear a grind and my car shutters forward and keeps going, I tried to shift to second but the lever would not engage. I try 3 more times to move the car and the same thing happens. So I crawl at 10mph the last 2 blocks to my house and sit down and start typing this.

here come the explitives...

Edit by John D.

That would be "expletives".... The paragraph below is edited by me.

John D.

I told my shop that my second gear syncro was shot and he CONTINUALLY protested and said it was the "master cyl" so I take his word for it and I belive I just blew my goddamn tranny. WHY DOES MY CAR HATE ME??? I PAMPER IT AND IT BREAKS INFRONT OF MY HOUSE??
that felt good.

What should I do? I have an urge to drive it at 10mph of a cliff and watch it fall. But after investing about 11k into it I think selling it would be a waste and I would lose HUGE amounts of $$. It is also not fair to my parents, who kindly offered to pay for half of all my repairs for the car. I cannot afford repairs like this and I think my shop is in REALLY DEEP CRAP with me. So before I call them and weave a tabestry of curses and accusations I would really appreciate any and all possible advice.

Thanks alot
-Sebastian

Bummer, Man.

I'd say the first step is to invest in some tools -- you'll always trust your work better than someone else's -- and probably do a better job because you'll take the time to do it right.

I'm sorry, but I am laughing and not at you, with you.

Welcome to the world of 944 ownership - things should level off at around $25K -

At least they seem to of for me, but then again, that was with me doing the labor . . . .

Much could be said - try and lake a better selection next time, blah blah blah - dude, I feel your pain, but now that my93844 is running (great, for now...) I think all the pain has been worth it!

Oh, could be something as simple as the clutch needing bleeding.

Could be!

Oh - did you check the miles when you dropped it off? Could the shop have driven your car?

Buy used transmission and install it yourself. $500 + tools / beer and pizza if you enlist help.

Transmission should be really easy to replace, too. Just need to disconnect the CV's, unbolt and lower, and raise the new one in.

Installing a new trans is a easy job. In order to own one of these you really have to do the work yourself. I wish you all the luck but remain calm on the phone tomorrow.

But after investing about 11k into it
The proper term is "lighting $100 bills on fire."

Your car really wouldn't move at all if you blew the ring and pinion. Did you try a 1-3 upshift?

note in sig.

Did you try a 1-3 upshift?
I would if I could get the car moving without trashing the remainder of my gearbox and my (1000 miles new) clutch.

also, I checked the miles and they only drove it 3 miles and that is because I asked them to drive it and see what they thought.

1. Do you have a garage?

2. Do you have tools?

If you answered yes to either of those two questions, you should be able to round up some 'listers to help you locate a used tranny and help you swap it in.

I have heard of a tranny swap done in a parking lot in under a few hours?

There are quite a few members in Jersey, I'm sure nickg has a trans somewhere in his barn 'o parts.

That sucks to hear - hope it isn't a big problem and that you can find a better shop to work with.

If you're looking for a better shop...

Go to my mechanic at Street-Solutions. He is located in Pineville, PA, close to south Jersey. $60/hr and you can bring your own parts.

if interested, drop the owner Jon a line at jon@street-solutions.com

Best of luck.
