I thought this several posts ago. I feel genuinely sick to my stomach. However, it also makes me feel a little better about my faded paint.

I get tired of looking at all the shiny fancy engines they're building in the turbo forum. All these nasty pics make a good counterbalance.

I just did a wheel bearing job on the 944. I actually did the job a few months ago, but the noises returned after a couple days. I decided the stub axle must be bent, so I bought a used one and went to replace it.

This is how I found the 3-month-old bearing:

Yes, I'm sure you couldn't wait for your nice turbo to explode! What happened?!

Exiting turn 8 at Watkins Glen on Monday, buddy on my tail, foot to the floor and "POP!" "TINK!" The pop was the turbine letting loose, the tink was the shrapnel being expelled out the exhaust. Apparently the cloud of black smoke was spectacular according to my friend behind me. Unfortunately no video.

We think the shaft broke due to fatigue. May never know for sure. Luckily all the damage was on the turbine side, not the compressor side. No engine damage at all.
