Don't assume the odometer is correct, though. They're 5 digit and roll over every 100k.

I just gave the guy a call. Nice Guy!
He is a 944 enthusiast but drives a 911 now. He has 4 944's all either parts cars or this one. This brown one has a dent in the drivers rear quarter behind the wheel and a rust hole in front of it.
The bad...

The emergency break is not working he is putting it up on lift tonght to check that.
The Fog lights do not work.
The good
He is a porsche fan and states that the car runs great.
many new engine parts have been replaced but this was stated by the last owner.
Any suggestions for when I go to check this out? I will probably go saturday if he still has the car. He

The emergency brake and the fogs wouldn't be a deal breaker for me.
The rust hole scares me though. There are plenty of rust-free examples running around as all 944 bodies were galvanized from the factory. It makes me wonder what the underside of the car looks like (rusty), or if the car was hit hard and repaired improperly.

put in a set of e codes or dont drive it at night, and put it in gear instead of pulling the brake. that solves those problems. do the fogs not work because someone butchered the electrics? same as what tifo said about the rust.
these cars were the bastard child of porsches. they were bought/leased by a lot of balding dentists who thought driving a porsche would enable them to bed their receptionists, or recently divorced women. it worked for the fat slob dentist that married my mother's recently divorced co worker some 20 years ago.
he knows as much about cars as i know about why we have wisdom teeth. he cared a lot less about his new porsche than i care about the rendezvous my wife leases.
now go look at the car and see if it is "right". it is the same color combo as the 84 my brother used to have. lately a few board members have started diggin the gold color.

Yes the Fog lights and EBrake are just little things but when he talked about the holes I got Deja Vu about the first one I looked at. He also has a blue 84 with no engine for $800 and an engine that could go with it for $300. I'm not in to doing that kind of work right now. He has 944 shells and parts all over the place. you can see the blue one here http://boston.craigslist.org/sob/car/277173905.html.
There is also a black 87 for $2900 here It has some light damage in the rear and I can't quite make out what all the white is just under both sides of the wing. I have sent them an email asking for a clearer picture and an explanation of the damage.

It looks really nice.
Broken tail light is an easy fix although the logo panel below wont be so easy.
And how come all the pics are date stamped 2004? Probably doesn't mean much..

notice how it says it needs a fuel pump? this means the car does not run which makes me think that there could be somethign else wrong but you won't know since you can't start it. If it was only the fuel pump why don't they fix it and then sell it? Beware!
also its missing a center cap for the rear wheel make him drop the price by a grand for the center cap LOL.
edit: the tires also look bald so another thing to keep in mind because before you know it u buy tires 300-400 bucks plus body damage and tail light and fuel pump and whatever else it needs a $2900 car will turn into a $4,000 car.
Be sure to all for maintenance records and have a ppi done before purchasing. Seeing that you are new to these cars if the car needs a clutch there goes $1500 bucks

The car looks pretty good.
Although it looks like it was tapped in the back pretty good. More than the tail light is crunched, the panel below them is whacked too. Definetly want to look at that one in person.
The timestamp on the photo could be incorrect. I see that all of the time in my line of work. No one ever makes certain they set the date/time on their cameras correctly.
