Should I consider this 944

"If you upped your budget to the $2K you mentioned earlier, you should probably be able to find a nice, running 944 that may need some TLC over time (like new belts, good cleaning, brakes, tires, etc, eventually maybe a clutch)."
I am going to be on the lookout for something exactly like you are outlining here. right now there is only one out there other than these two is exactly what you describe but the guy put a lot of stereo work in to it and wants 4,400 obo.

daniel951 Send me an email and we can discuss. I am willing to go a little over but I was trying to keep this down around there. The idea was to get something around 1-2 and gradually spend the rest on it getting to know the car in the process and not spending all the money at once.
However spending some of it up front on things that make sense is a good Idea.

there are so many of these cars around it is cheaper to pay a little more up front. try autotrader, cars.com, or our classifieds (gotta be a member for that).
there are plenty around. The car my brother sold to skoot1027 two years ago is now for sale on pelican. I know it is a straight 84 that spent most of from 84 to 01 in a climate controlled storage facility

I have tried many sites and for the most part the three I have mentioned in the previous posts are all that are within 100 miles and the low bedget I have set. Whish my Ancestors settled in a warmer climate!

I have to say Daniel's car looks very solid. A much better starting point.
You made a good point about starting with something that you are more likely to get through rather than something too far gone. That is exactly what I convinced myself of when I started. At first I thought about really cheap fixer-uppers, but then considering it was to be my first major automotive project, I decided to start with a solid car to make for an easy restoration. Well, I am over the hump now (in the project) and looking back I am glad I did. There has been a lot more challenge and interest then I ever expected. If I had been working on a basket case, I don't know if I still would be at it!
And you may want to post what area you are located in. A member reading this thread may have some local leads...

I posted this a little earlier but it did not take. I am in the South Eastern MA area near the cape. I am looking for something in the 1-2 area that I can work on but that is not beat. If anyone knows of anything like this or one comes up I would like to hear about it. Thanks in advance and I appreciate greatly all of the advice. It is forums like this that keep knowledge adn advice flowing to those who need it.

This all started with my Wife saying "Hey look there is a Porsche 944 down the street and only 1500". Man I have had a porsche education in the last week after I test drove it.
I now have hope for the dream to stay alive. I am convinced this is where I want to start I just need to find the right deal.

I don't know how much you want to go over you 2k limit but here is a post I made a while back. "Checking the local paper car adds and saw a'87 924s with 51000 mi.for sale for $2800. I don't know anything about the car but if someone is interested pm me and I'll give you a phone #. The car is located in Ohio" This car has been in the local newsparer for some time ,so I think maybe you could work on the $ some.It was still listed last week so I can probably still find the phone # Fred

Welcome! I bought mine a few months ago. Expect to pay later for one less then $2k. if you do your own work you will save a great deal of money. I bought mine cheap and am slowly getting it up to par. I went as far way as Baltimore to pick mine up. Airfare is cheap for a one way so if you are brave enough, expand your search some. Guys on here can also help look at the car if you ask.
If I had to do it all over again I would buy one off someone on the list before all else.
Take your time to find the right one for you and you will find it. Look for the options stickers too. Sometimes the previous owner doesn't know what a car might be worth with the right wheels or options (mine didn't have a clue).
