I was originally thinking of doing NASA on Saturday 4/14/07, but this looks like more track time, however, it is on a Monday. If I can get the day off, I'd like to join you guys.

Put me on the 'Maybe' list. I'm a track day virgin, and would want some sort of instruction. Also, there are some things I want to do to the car beforehand, need to get it smogged before registration is due (if anyone knows of a place that can smog a car that will most likely fail, PM me) and want to do some suspension work and find tires. . . all just requires money.

They require a minimum of 2 previous track days for this event. If you don't meet this you could sign up for a NASA HPDE in March (10/11) which would get you instruction on the Thunderhill track and satisfy the 2 day requirement.

You can put me on the Probable list -- Haven't yet signed up but it is on the calendar and I plan to make it.

I'd like to come, but it depends on the car and money situation, which at this point is looking like a no. Well, to clarify, I wouldn't be driving - I could still come and tag along with people/take pictures.

Ok, it looks like I'm out. I read the website and they require at least 2 prior track days, and there is no beginner run group, or instruction. I do want an instructor riding along on my 1st time out.

We'll see whats coming up later in the season thats more n00b friendly.

They didn't ask for any proof -- it's an honor system.

I'm in group B, #68: http://www.gotgutsatthunderhill.com/driverlist.html

It is an honor system guys. The last thing I want to do, however, is put you in a situation where you are in over your head or uncomfortable. We have a (pardon the pun) pretty good track record with these events. Most folks drive their track cars to the track, and many need to drive them to work the next day. So the last thing anyone wants is to have someone bust their car. On the other hand, even experienced drivers occasionally get in over their head. But of the many choices we have in track venues, Thunderhill is probably the most benign. In most cases going off will get you very dirty and thats it. However, stuff does happen from time to time, and we all sign waivers to protect the track, the event organizers and ourselves. On the registration form each driver will indicate his/her level of experience. If you lie you are hurting yourself and potentially those around you. And if your driving proves to be erratic and a danger to others, you will be asked to park, either for a session or 2 or, in extreme cases, for the rest of the day. And if you don't feel you are ready then you are probably not...no shame in that.

Last year we did have instructors, but since I am not a professional track day organizer (I only do this charity event with SAMOA once a year) I don't have the ability to prequalify a stable of instructors. So we went with the advanced and the 2 intermediate groups, which actually will result in more track time and a less crowded track for all of us. But the one thing to remember is that this is just practice and not a competitive event. We are all out there to have fun in a controlled environment.

Chris, I have your registration and you are GTG.

Holy cow! ^ ^ ^ those pictures! There's nothing to hit there! I've never been on a track that was so.............wide open!!!

Do you think you push it a bit harder knowing you won't hit something if you go off? I'm more used to this:

Shiners780, is that the Glen? Thunderhill is owned and operated by the SF region of SCCA about 90 miles north of Sacramento. Many folks (mostly in LA ) consider Sacramento a cowtown, so you can imagine how remote Willows is. But its 3 miles, 15 turns and FIA certified and still less expensive than Laguna Seca. The thing you have to watch out for at the Hill are ruts in the off areas, especially a week after a heavy rain. But generally its safer than many others.
