I can tell you that my butt-wind-tunnel-device™ tells me the front end is more stable at speed with rather than without.

I don't think it would be all that difficult to get something made in a malleable material. You would then have to address the fixing of it to the car but this is all doable. I will contact a friend who works in the field and see what he has to say.
Also there is one of the popular splitters that seems to just stick out in a horizontal manner which looks ok for clearance but I can't see any functionality with this design. IIRC there's some race cars with a splitter and then underneath this there seems to be some sort of thick rubber that I guess covers the ground effects issue even more completely and this would wear when it comes into contact with the track. Because they have much less travel in the suspension and they're on smoother surfaces this is fine to be so low to the track. Don't see many of them negotiating speed bumps etc...

My AIR has survived a opossum attack and a fox at over 75 mph. If you mount it with more than a few machine screws it's not going anywhere. I have a few M8 bolts with fender washers behind the lip of mine and it's stable well over 100 mph. I've asked Mike to borrow his butt-wind-tunnel-device to test out the functionality of the splitter, he declined...

Mine nearly decapitated a squirrel at about 40 the other day. Made a pretty cool sound, too.

Is it really as functional as people say? I havent ever tested it at really high speeds.
Yes it is functional, but it depends on how fast you are going and the ride height of the car. The AIR and GT racing splitters can have different effectivenesses depending on the ride height of the car they are mounted on.

I can make a replica out of polyuerthane, but it will be much heavier and much more expensive.

I think urethane would be to heavy, that's why I thought the rubber like the rear spoiler, or I'm thinking even some sort of foam composite that would be light, cheap, and would just wear down to it's natural level.

Rich Sandor [face_applause]

The AIR splitter is a quality piece, but as with anything people will complain about something.

it is pretty good as far as fitment, takes almost no tweaking to get it to go on flush. Thats pretty rare among fiberglass parts.

I can't remember which one is which, but the one that stick's straight out seems pointless to me as opposed to the one that points down similar to a normal front spoiler designed for added downforce.

Think about it. If you mount it TOO securely, not only will you lose the splitter, but you'll rip off your front bumper cover too and damage the mounting points on it.

The splitter rips off easily when it catches something, as it should!

Just curious here. What about damaging other parts under the car? I, personally, would rather hear it scraping the road (or wherever) and pull over to remove it than to possibly have it ripping through the under-carriage damaging who knows what. Just my 0.000002 pennies.

Does your butt windtunnel device whistle? I always thought that whistle was the turbo spooling..
