Yea, i gave them a call and they basically said that they can do it (they have the tool that i need), but they need the car there; which is in storage.

i tried my best to look in there with a mirror, but i didn't see any funky retainers holding it in place. i have tomorrow off as well, so i am going to just pull the whole concel and see what i come up with. (i didn't get any work done today...)

let me know what you find out. I'm beting that it's mounted in there so it can't be removed even with the keys. Im getting ready to re-do the entire audio setup in mine so i know what your going through right now.

Ha, thanx. I have 1/2 day off tomorrow, so i'm just going to pull the whole damn thing out of there!

I just thought of something. The mounting doesn't look like a clarion mount (if my memory is right). Installer could of left the whatever was installed before. This might be why you can't get it out. It could be a universal mounting bracket.

I'll put up a picture of my Pioneer I just removed to show you what I mean in a few minutes.

here is what one should look like. can't see it that well, but notice the outward indent? This is where the key would go through.

Picture of the back where they could of screwed it down and picture of the side of the mounting bracket. Pioneer is different then Clarion, but not much.

Thanks for the pics. That is what my new stereo looks like, and has nearly the same locking mechanism. But i guess that the old one has a completely different system.

Those look like the old tools. It's been a while though since I have worked on Clarion systems, work most with installing Alpines these days for friends. Betting that taking the console apart is about the only way you will get it out.

But the good news is, while the console is out you will be able to get things cleaned up in there.

Yup. i was searching through some old recipts and actually found the "quick refrence guide" today. It had the date on there...1994. Ironically, the newer type retaining systems can easily be "picked" with a butter knife in a matter of seconds, while this old beast requires me to take the whold consel apart!

Great advances in technology, eh?

Just imagine, with all this work, doing the belts or motor mounts will be a walk in the park! I figure my setup is going to take about 40-50 hours in all. Sound barrier was a good 12 hours so far. Alarm, DVD, power locks, cd changer, TV, speakers & sub will will be easy, but all new wiring will take most of the time.

HA, Yea. i've actually helped my friend do a clutch and also coilovers on his car and was suprised by how overly-hyped rennlist makes those jobs seem. But yea, i would say that i have spent at least 5 hrs already when you include fiddling, reasearch, etc. With 0% acomplished. LOL!

Hopefully i'll have some better luck in the morning.

I ended up taking the whole councel out. I was right in thinking that i needed the older style removal tools. (couldn't have done it with a butter knife...)

Make me an offer for my old radio. it's for sale.

Here's my new issue:
Can i buy adapters for the cd changer and the wiring harness? Where?


OR....


Can i at least match up all of the colors of wires and just splice them individually? (for the wiring harness)


BTW: Thanks again for everyone's help/advice! I am a NOOB at radios, and this is my first major electronics job.

I would have taken a photo of my middle flipping off the mass of wires, but that's just me!

I think Crutchfield does harnesses so you don't have to start chopping your wires up.
