This might sound like a pain, but you might be better off unscrewing the entire center console and then getting at it from the back. They could of extended the tabs in the back, which they shouldn't of done.

I tried to get the whole thing off once, but it seemed like it didn't want to budge (like the radio was holding it in place),so i stopped. Maybe i'll try that tactic again tomorrow.

Try pulling the console out again. There are the screws under the armrest, under the ashtray, the bottom of the cubby, and on the sides and i think that is all. Might take some force to get it off that metal frame. This is what I did to remove mine and it made life 100x easier.

BTW what are you doing with the old cd player?

The thin strips of metal go in here, a spring tab from the radio engages the sleeve a few inches back, just disengage the spring tabs.

Kevin- that's what i've been trying to do. It just seems that i can't get the springtabs to disengage.

Ryan- that's my plan of attack for today. i'm going to rip apart that **** and get to the back of the unit.

Oh yea, it's a tape deck, but it'll be for sale once i get it out.

Have you tried to disengage them while pressing on the face of the unit? Typically they have a locking design.

Sounds like something is bent waaay out if place, just pull the console.

Sometimes they are just retarded regardless of having the tools to move the clips, etc. Stick your hand in the tape deck to try to pull it back. I had trouble getting my old Blapunkt tape deck out even with the DIN tools, the radio just seemed to bew stuck, but it came out with force, and gently prying at the edges.

Did you give the guys a call I sent you the info on?

The PO could of put a retaining bracket in the back that basically locks the head unit to the car. Get a flash light and look at it from the back. Might see an "L" bracket back there.
