Default 951 and S2 shared parts..

Hi all. You may know that my 87 951 was totaled. It was in perfect running condition and had alot of new parts on it. It is now sitting in my driveway. Now I am thinking about buying a 90 S2. Besides the obvious body parts, I was wondering what parts are interchangable... Some things I would swap if I can are Shocks/Struts/Springs? Ignition Coil? O2 Sensor? Feel free to throw in anything you know is the same.. Thanks!

I believe that pretty much the entire interior will swap back and forth (unless you get an S2 cab, in which case certain parts - ie roof - won't transfer). Beyond that, suspension will swap and maybe some brake bits (i'm not sure)

It actually is a cab with the same color interior, so I think I'll put the 951's better interior in the cab.

Pretty much all of it will transfer. The S2 is essentially a 951 with the twin cam motor. The gearing and/or final drive is different (shorter), so you would not want to put a turbo transmission into an S2. The suspension, brakes, etc. are identical, as is the interior with the exception of the gauge cluster. The other differences are very minor.

Some of the interior crap wont swap.

A pillars are different, rear seats are different, rear side panels, and I think the carpet perhaps might be different as the cabrio's have double floor pans and have a lot less leg room.

I was under the impression that all cabs came with LSD as standard? Am I wrong?

Whoa, my bad! Every cab I looked at when buying had LSD and some people on rennlist mentioned it, hence the impression. Forget what I said then...

The 951 has LSD. Really, how much work would that be to switch the engine and tranny? I never had an S2 so I wouldnt mind getting to know that engine. Putting the turbo motor in there is a very unlikely option.

Mike the tranny isnt hard to swap..i can help you do it in your driveway. The engine is beyond my expertise. The S2 has great low end power, must different compared to the 951's power band.

Swapping the turbo tranny into the S2 will be a problem if you do not also swap the turbo motor. It'll bolt right up, but drive like an economy car because of the gearing. Going the other way (turbo motor swap with S2 tranny left in place) will make for one hell of a car. As noted above, certain interior pieces do not interchange between a coupe and cab. The stuff you are probably most interested in switching (seats, console, dash, door panels, floor mats) are all the same. Rock and XSBoost90 are probably the gurus on this one, as they've actually created a turbo cab out of an S2 and turbo parts car.

What about the door panels... Is there a reason there's no 4X6 speaker in the door on the cab. Instead there's speakers where the map pocket would be on the door. My 951 door panels are in better shape than the ones on the cab i'm looking at.
