You obviously don't know this rennlist member. he has an incredible track car! if you look at the pics from the last 944fest, his car is the one with the ALL polished 968 motor.
What's up Marty? The consensus around rennlist is to get a custom cage donw from a local shop. maybe ask some of the local guys....

Just as an aside - you sit a lot closer to the door/bar/whatever in the 951 than I do in my GTI - and I hit my head on the glass of my GTI in a pretty minor accident. If that were a metal bar, I'd be dead.
And I had a 4 pt bar in my 951 - a 'cage' behind the rear seats, but nothing around the driver/passenger.

Even back in the day when we built cars for SCCA, there was a thing called padding. I'd recommend it on a rollbar in any location where a body part could potentially hit it, track and helmet or not. As far as I'm concerned, a full cage is ok for both track and street. Make sure it's properly constructed from the correct materials (if you're planning on actual racing in the future, just any ole pipe won't do) and that it is padded.

There are some other cages (different makes) on the site as well, but that's the only one in a 944 series car. Until the white car gets one in a few weeks .

The point is not to allow your head to hit anything. If you have a cage in your car, you need to have a proper 5 or 6 point restraint, and use it, regardless of street or track driving. I don't believe using a full harness on the street is safe. It limits your ability to turn your body and see on coming traffic.
You also don't just worry about your head hitting the cage, arms can break if you hit the cage with a small amount of force. Padding or not.

Hey Marty, check out this thread here: https://rennlist.com/forums/showthre...+cage+pictures
It is from the Racing forum here on Rennlist and offers some pretty good pictures, concepts, and design ideas. From riding in your car at the 944Fest did you have a bolt in cage or was it a roll bar?
Also check out here for some good 944 cage pics: http://www.izzyscustomcages.com/PorscheCages.html
Take care and I look forward to running Nelsons Ledge again!
