Default What tool for getting the pins out of the mirror ?

So I've got my replacement door all set for assembly except for the door handle...and I was taking the original mirror off the dented door. What tool have you guys used for pulling the pins out of the connector so the mirror can be removed?

Sort of a dumb design...wouldn't have taken a lot of thought to just put a connector in the door!

im confused to what you mean, if you crank the mirror towards the front of the car, it will expose an allen head bolt, remove that bolt, and pull up on the mirror and then either cut the wires and splice them back in, or trace them and get to the plug, which i dont think is at the door (you may have already cut them if this door is off)

edit: nvm, im sorry, i didnt see where you said pins on the connector..

any, you can get a pin extractor for those, or use tweezers to squeeze and push through at the same time. or you can still use the cut and splice method :/

sorry if im not any help

Buy the pin extractor from these guys - no affiliation - just a satisfied customer.

Item #305183 about halfway down on the page - the little black push pin tool. You will look forward to electrical work on the car

The one at radioshack as posted in other threads is too big. Just thought I'd mention it.

Well Radio Shack had two pin extractors, one too small, one too big! Geez. Local NAPA stores don't stock them. The link to Action Electronics had two extractors...".062" and .093...I take it it's the .093 one that works for us?? Guess I'll have to order one...nobody in New Hampshire seems to have one!!

#305183 is only one size. Order it from Action Electronics. It's all you need.

Bringing another one back from the dead...

I need to remove my mirrors to paint them. I bought a tool from NAPA for removing the connector. It slips into each hole, over the female connector, sort of locks on, and...the socket doesn't come out. Is this the wrong type of tool, or is there some special trick to removing these?

The tool seems to fit properly, but nothing unlocks. The way I understand it, the tool pushes in on two locking ears, releasing the socket from the plastic. Tool looks similar to the tools listed on that site, but it has a screwdriver handle instead of a spring-loaded plunger.

Make sure it's oriented correctly and pull each wire up to actually remove from the plug. Please take note of the order in which they are located within the plug.

I just ordered this thing if anyone wants to borrow it in central NJ. Just leave a deposit in cash of double the value. Look forward to easy pin extraction!

I ended up having to order the tool from Action Electronics...the Radio Shack and NAPA ones I tried didn't fit or work properly. The one from Action worked like a charm...
