Default 1986 944 N/A value

Ok, my bro-in-law and I are selling his 944. (He owes me $$ - long story)...

So, what do you think I can get for it?

Details:
H2O pump leaking
Clutch slipping
New control arms (this past summer)
Dent in rear above the bumper.
Motor runs strong

Thinking of selling it for $1000 as is. Is that a fair price?

To repair H2O pump + new timing belt + balance shaft belts, it will cost me about $900.00.

Thoughts?

Edit: its a 1986, not an 87.

i sold an 86 n/a in fair shape w/ leaky rack but good trans/motor and new belts for 3k- so subtract costs of clutch and stuff from that and there ya go- dependent on how nice it looks- besides the dent- maybe 1500...

1000 for car, 900 for belts, 1200-1600 for clutch = 3500 for car. not too bad if the rest is OK and you want another 944.

i am seeing people get wood over cheap 944s and walking from 944s that had the work done. yet the ones that had the work done will be cheaper than the cheap ones. typical, but seen a lot here lately.

These are the only recent pics I have. More to come tomorrow...

It's the one on the left.

A good shot of the dent in the rear.

Damn. Dents in that rear panel are a b*tch to repair - usually requires cutting the section out and re-welding. Very expensive to do. Maybe a good body guy could figure out a better way, but I've been told that crumples to that panel are usually terminal (i.e. total loss).

Following that I looked at a red 90 yesterday. was talking $$ with the owner and was using the purchase of my gray 89 in 04 and sale of my gray 89 in 06 as a baseline.

I said yours is a year newer so it is worth more, mine had a few less miles and the ten speaker system so it somewhat offset the difference. mine was not red, so that added some value, and continued my analysis.

I think one can deduct a few hundred bucks for red.

$1000 seems ok. Could be a good one for a handy guy.

i guess someone realized the control arms alone cost about what you want for the car. I shoulda bought the car and swapped control arms.

Wouldn't work with your '89 - the 1986 944 is still early offset, and it is a different A-arm - late vs. early - one section is shorter than the other.
