Default Fan Switch

This weekend i will be replacing the fan switch. Is the whole coolant system needed to be drained for this? What type of coolant fluid would be recomended?

the one in the radiator? Should be able to do a quick swapperoo with that one if your fast. Put a pan under the radiator and you may need to add some afterwards- i only used 50/50 premixed antifreeze- green- some pple say phosphate free only but ive never had a problem going prediluted since its PH tested correct for autos.

Make sure you have a socket that fits the switch before you go and try to change it out, wrenches just won't fit...

And make sure the coolent is nice and cool before you start the job.

PS - The socket costs about half of what the switch costs! And be careful when tightening if you have plastic end tanks... go e-z, and let me know if it was easy to put the connector back on the switch

Its not to hard to get the connector on and off..i did it a few times when i was testing my cooling fan relay.

I am changing my switch this friday when i get home, the gasket seal ring is starting to leak on mine. Im debating the best way to get it though, either from below or above. Dont think i have a socket or wrench that big however.

i did it from the bottom on ramps.

when the switch is removed it'll only drain down to the bottom of the opening.

check the fluid level in the expansion tank before you pull the switch.
when it's back together, fill to the same point and you may not have to bleed it.

Fastest and most cuss-free method is to go ahead and pull the fan shroud for easy access... when you pull the plug you will drain some antifreeze.

Then you can use a crescent wrench...
