Default Factory Alarm door lock

Can someone explain how the secondary keyhole is supposed to work?
Should it be using the same key as used for the ignition?

Thank you

Needs a second different type alltogether. I replaced mine for less than $140 CND ... includes a new key and lock. The replacement keys are very hard to find.

You can modify the alarm lock to work with your ignition key. It's not really difficult to do:

So what's the lock supposed to do? Does it set off an alarm?

I was told my alarm is disconnected...how would I go about reconnecting it?
Thanks,
Mike

It sounds the horn repeatedly at about 100 BPM if you open the door without turning the alarm off (and perhaps if you do other things).

I had the alarm key for my first 944. Both times I turned on the alarm I forgot and accidentally set it off.

I don't think my second car had the factory alarm. A previous owner had installed an aftermarket alarm and in the proicess really messed up the wiring harness.

I know I don't have the alarm key for my current 944. Thank god. It eliminates the possibility of my car triggering the most universally ignored sound in the universe: the car alarm.

Add it to the list of things i would pay to NOT have on my cars:

So let's say you put on the alarm, and accidentally get in the car causing it to go off. There's no way to shut it? Will getting out and turning the key shut the alarm? Will starting the car shut the alarm? Just wondering as I am undecided if I should fix it or not.

Getting out and turning the key will shut it off.

You can't get into the car ... the alarm goes off when the door is opened. Still need the key to shut it off.

My mech told me that it would also disable the charging system so that the car would die within an hours driving.

I believe that the factory alarm, which I have on my car, is also an immobiliser. If it sounds, you cannot start the car. Haven't tried it yet. Will have to experiement.

I believe the switch cuts power to the DME. I guess you could get in, open the window, reach out and turn the alarm on, then try to start the car. That'll tell you for sure.

Has anyone updated the old system (separate key cylinder) to the updated system that arms the system when the door is locked?
