my 85.5 has the fader. the PO had the radio "stolen", so when I went to install my new stereo a few weeks ago, I found the worst wiring mess ever. The original harness was cut, it was missing speaker wires. Clearly some idiot had done a half arsed install much earlier. We found power and ground (and switched power) running to the back, likely for an amplifier. We were able to use that, but ran 3 new speaker lines. The wiring to the fader was all cut, too, so I didn't use that. I bought a cheap blaupunkt head unit and some blau speakers for the doors. Only have the two working, but as soon as I order a couple more, I'll toss them in the back (wire already run). It can be a pain in the *** if you have a situation like mine, but the install is certainly doable.

Yep...my 85/2 has a fader (currently working with a new head unit in it) as well.

I do intend to bypass it eventually, but with the stock 20+ year old speakers in it, I just don't think it really matters.

elite001,

Do yourself a favor and get your car checked out by someone who knows these cars. Do you have maintenance records for the car? Do you know when the timing belt was last changed? These cars are expensive to maintain and even more expensive to repair if maintenance is not kept up.

I-O

me too..

yes, the timing belt was change about 3-4 months ago. yea now I'm having trouble to find a mechanic... can you refer me one? since I need to have my speed sensore changed. If the mechanic can supply the part himself, it's fine as long as it's reasonably price. or I can also find out the parts online by myself if the mechanics wants me to..

please help me...
