Default race gas in my 944S

will it hurt the engine? I think its 101 or at least 100 octane, will my engine take damage using this high of gas? I already run it on premium every time with no problems, so yeh anyone ever done it?

Nope, it will not hurt you engine. If its leaded, it will hurt your cats, but I think the 101-100 is unleaded. I've run it in several cars and never had a problem.

Being that race gas only raises octane an engine should never get damaged using race gas because it doesn't raise power. Or is there some additive that is detrimental to an engine's life? One thing ive always wondered is wouldn't race gas on an N/A application actually net less hp beacsue its resisting to light?

uhm, doesnt a higher octane gas raise power? I've always thought that it did

only if the car is tuned for it. You can run more timing with race gas. The high octane is more resistant to detonation.... but you need to be tuned for it to make more power. Newer cars with learning ECU's will learn that they can run more timing, but older cars, it will make no real difference in power.

you may get 1-3hp but thats it.

It is a waste of money on a street engine.

Race gasin an N/A application is only useful for very high compression engines; in other words, race engines. For forced induction engiens it allows you to raise boost.

As a matter of fact, it's quite the opposite, all other things equal. Octane is, in effect, the level of resistence a fuel has toward detonation. The higher the octane rating, the higher the resistence. Likewise, the higher the octane, the harder it is to combust. The game of octane choice is balancing the compromise of flame propogation speed (combustion speed). Too much speed and you have detonation; too little speed and you have poor combustion. Either case is bad, though at different levels. One risks your motor's longevity. The other just robs you of power.
