Default Which wet wheather tire to get?

Here in Vancouver it is pouring every single day in the winter and I don't feel confident with my old BF goodrich T/A radials.

Can anyone recommend some decently priced tires that are excellent in wet wheather. It mostly rains here so it just has to be okay on snow ( I probably wouldn't drive if it snowed where I was going).

Right now my rear tires are BF goodrich TA radials and they are pretty crappy in my opinion. They still have good thread. my front tires are kumho and barely have any thread left.

I'm thinking of just getting a nice set of 4 tires. I've heard yohohamas makes good tires. I'm not sure where to go though, Canadiantire/ Sears etc don't have them.

Check out Bridgestone RE960's. I have them on my 951 and they are great in the wet.

okay thanks, I'm writing a bunch of tires down to see which ones I can find in my city. I read good reviews on yokohoma avid t4 and avid s/t.

I don't want to spend a ton on tires but I still want good performance wet/ dry tires (more wet performance / little snow). Micheline pilots for example are too expensive.

I don't want to spend more than 150-160 per tire (cdn.).

I'm just a big south of you here in the Pacific Northwet. I've been using Toyo T1R's on the 993 and they have been great in all this wet weather. I think they suck in the dry but really surefooted in the wet.

I also have Yoko ES100's on the 964. Also a very sucky dry tire but so far lots of wet traction and I've not had any hydroplane issues even with a lot of standing water on the highways down here.

There could be better tires but these two seem to be wet focused with the directional tread. And at a 280 treadwear.. they should last forever.

I run Continental ExtremeContacts on the audi... not quite a p-car but I've had great results with these tires in all sorts of wet conditions from rain to slush to snow on Mt Hood. I don't even run a winter tire, I have the Contis on both my 16's and 18's.

That said the 944 has Yoko ES100's and was fine in the rain here before I began disassembling her. Upside is the ES100's are pretty cheap... like 80 or so $US. The Conti's are 50% more $$$.

I believe 1010tires.com is in BC ... check on-line. They seem to have the best prices. I have a shop in Toronto that beats them ... but they don't ship, and they get theirs from BC ... port of entry for Japanes and Korean tires.

thanks, I think I'm going to get yokohomas, I've heard good things about them but i'm not shure which one is best in wet while still being good in the dry. I'll consider the es100 as well.

Yeah.. I could have used them yesterday and this morning. It was so icy this morning that I decided to turn around and go home after passing.

1 pickup truck on it's roof in the fast lane.
1 SUV on it's side 1/2 in fast lane, 1/2 in ditech
1 PT Looser stuck 1/2 down an offramp, sideways, still sliding the wrong direction.
3 various cars in ditches.
1 unidenfied vehicle that slid across median into bushes.

That was in the first 3 miles of the highway (I have a 40 mile commute).

RELEVANCE. Toyo Proxes T1R good in rain HORRIBLE on ice/snow.. I mean like dangerous!!!!

i've had Falken FK451's, Fuzion ZRi's, and Yoko ES100's.

both very good in the wet, IMO. ZRi's are harder to kick out in the wet than the Falkens, but i like the dry performance of the falkens the best.

ES100's are OK, but relatively noisy.

Fuzion's are pretty cheap, too.

I had Yoko Avid T4's on our Mazda econobox. I bought them based on Tire Rack reviews as being good in wet weather. The first year I had them they were great, but by the second year they were very slick in the rain. I ended up replacing them with over half their tread life left because they became dangerous in the rain. Ironic, since I bought them specifically as a wet weather tire.

I would consider Fuzion ZRi's, either through the Tire Rack or from Volko Tire (AKA 1010tire.com) locally.

well I didnt' want to wait too long and went to Ok tire and the guy ordered Toyo proxes tpt tires for my car, he said that they were good all season tires but wouldn't recommend them in the snow, he told me that all the all season tires were crap in the snow.

anyone know if hte toyo tpts are good tires? they were pretty pricey total is 693.82 including installation for 4 tires.

he said he could also get yohohama H4s tires for my car but those were even more expensive , another 70 bucks so I just went with the toyos.

actually i'm going tomorrow to get them.... it snowed here and the roads are pretty ****ty because they did not clean them in a lot of places because it rarely snows here so they don't have a lot of snow plows.

700 bucks for 4 tires and installation/balancing?!

i got my Falkens out the door for like......almost 500, maybe a little less!

Fuzions would have been even cheaper.

700 includes tax/ installation..... yeah it's expensive but I asked around at 2 other places and they didn't have tires my size and when they checked the prices they were pretty similar.

anyone know if the tpts are decent all season tires? It's been snowing here and I don't think I can drive my car for another week, I don't want to crash it (again).
