My 944S MAF conversion thread

Temprarily Banned per IB
U R Welcome!
I left you on your own on this for a reason. I wanted to see how far you would get without instruction other than basic operation of the program, just as anyone else who uses it. You did well. You probably have more insight than the 'average' user from watching what I have done, but I'm confident that anyone with a brain can use these products to get the most out of their cars. You've never let me down. Good Job!
Regards,
Russell

I missed the last few posts on this thread, but I had been waiting for these results, so I'm going to revive it.
Here's what you seem to have figured out, and please correct me where I'm wrong. You've got the basic ("budget") "S" MAF conversion kit up and running on your car right now, and here's what I would need to duplicate it (prices are from the Split Second website):
1 Split Second 3.0 MAF sensor: $235
1 IAT sensor (Split Second sells one, so here's their price): $50
1 Split Second MAF wiring harness: $50
1 K&N cone filter
1 aftermarket chip with your fuel map on it, or something like it
Any chance you and Russell are still thinking about making up the chip? I know you were losing interest in this project a few weeks back.
I'm getting real curious because it's looking like my AFM is not functioning properly and new units for the "S" are no longer available. Besides, these figures put us relatively close to the price of a new AFM.

Did the $325 include a temp sensor? I don't see a separate one in SFR's pic of the S2 kit. Is it integrated maybe?
You know I WANT to get the Maxtronic.... Well, maybe that's where the tax return will be going this year.

The temp sensor is integrated into the MAF.
Trust me MAKE the Maxtronic purchase. You'll thank me later

Okay, so let me see if I've got this right. I can put together a functional system, on my totally stock "S," with:
Split Second 3.0 MAF and harness from SFR
Maxtronic
fuel map (if you're really willing to share)
K&N cone filter
No signal conditioners or wide-band 02 sensors or A/F guages or other hidden $863 items?
If so, I think I could swing that.

Jesse, someone just suggested that I would still need a "programmable piggy-back" unit, too. Sorry for asking so many questions. I'm just trying to get to the bottom line.

To be honest, I'm not sure what the purpose of the piggy-back unit is supposed to be. I thought it was to convert the signal from the MAF into one that the ECU could interpret properly. I figured the customized fuel map on the Maxtronic would compensate for the signal difference.

i'm pretty happy with the HP increase this system has... i'll have to custom fab some other ideas, and dyno test them but before I do anything. Right now, I know this system works, PERIOD. So why try to fix something that aint broke?
