Placement of MSD ignition?
Anyone go through this process already and come up with the best placement? Got mine via UPS last night and I'd like to install it today (after I fix the daily, my 1990 Acura's alternator went I think...)
Thanks,
Matt

In my '86 N/A I put it in the same place as the pic. I still have the plastic cover that goes over the blower motor. I just layed the vaccum tank next to the MSD and put the cover on top of it all. Have not had any problems with water getting on it at all. It's a snug fit, but it works nicely there.
For everyone wondering about how well an MSD works on these cars; it's only butt dyno, but it seems to run smoother and pull stronger. And it's smog legal.....for those who have to deal with that.

tod84944 If you install it like in the pic, where do you put the vacume acculator???
The same place that the early cars have it, unless you have cruise control.

Hi Everyone,
I would not mount the MSD next to the DME as was suggested earlier.
I've used these units for many years and they can develop Electro-Magnetic Interference (EMI) and affect the DME or any other computer in the car if they are placed in close proximity with out any grounded sheet metal to separate them. It's more important that they get cool air (minimal engine heat) and not necessarily stay dry, although that's always a plus.
Where the other Rennlisters are mounting them (next to the battery) is actually a very good place for them. I would just make sure that you do not sit directly on the bottom of the well as that area sometimes has drainage problems and can fill up with some water. When this happens for very long periods of time it can rot out the iron transformer laminations that’s inside the box and cause the transformer core to swell up possibly to the point of failure (ask me how I know). The electronics inside are weatherproofed so it doesn’t mind getting wet but it can't sit in a puddle for a very long period of time without problems.
