Hey Sharky,
How hard/expensive would it be to make spacers to fit a KYB front strut insert into a late 944 strut, and a cap to hold the strut top on.
A set of Koni inserts and rear cost $600. A set of KYB insers and rears cost $160.
Tell me if the engineers think this will work.
Bottom of insert a donut that wraps around the insert and fits inside the strut. Make the donut then cut it in half so the user wraps the two pieces and inserts. I am taking into account the crimp at the ends of the insert.
Top make two things. first is a donut like for the bottom and second is a cap like a bottle cap. drill a hole through the daimeter of both. thread the inside of the holes you just drilled into the side of the cap.
the user would cut the top off the strut at what i assume is the height of the insert. then drill two holes through the top of the insert. Insert the insert, line up the holes on the top donut with the holes just drilled. put cap on and insert a bolt on each side into the threades holes in the side of teh cap. the bolt would go through the strut and into the hole in the donut which doesnt have to be threaded since the cap is a cap.
when done the insert is in and covered. the funky cap does the same thing as the bolt in the bottom of the konis.
If you can make these 6/8 pieces, I think there is a market for them. If the price is under $100 i think a lot of late 944 owners would want them. $260 for kyb inserts and this "kit" is a lot cheaper than $600 for konis. Yes they are not as good, but......
Does anyone else see a need, or want in if Sharky can do it?
Travis, is this a possible Rennbay item?

Sharky,
I'd like to know what is up with the injector inserts I sent you a couple months ago. I've tried several times to contact you both PM and email but I gets no reply
Also, I'm interested in a few of the crankpulleys that flosho is talking about, ones with the crank trigger wheel. I'd probably get 4 or 5 of those myself if it would make it worth the effort. I plan on EFI'ing all 4 of my 931's eventually and would rather do a nice billet pulley rather than welding onto a stock pulley.
Either way, let me know what is up with the inserts if you would, thanks.

Man, we have been swamped - I apologize profusely!
About the inserts, we only have one CNC lathe that big and it has been booked solid since before you contatced me. I *think* we only have one or two jobs left to go on it for a while.........I hope........

See thats 5-6 for sure on the crank pulley, I'm sure if the price was reasonable and you posted at 924board we could easily get 10-15... The hardest part of efi'ing a 924 is the edis vr sensor set up... This would solve it nicely..

I think you could get a lot of interest in caliper adapters for monoblock 996/997 turbo calipers, and gt3 calipers.
It seems the europeans have already gotten the measurements and make them on a semi-regular basis but I haven't seen anyone on this side of the pond offering them. I'd love to fit the lighter and stiffer 996/997 monoblocks to my ride.

how much for some spacers that are the exact right size to make late offset wheels fill out the wheel well better than using just the 911 spacers?
and you could also make some stuff to bolt on a kenne bell/whipple type supercharger onto a 951 engine.

The mill is a Bridgport with many upgrades including a +-.0005 Mitutoyo readout on the X and Y axis'. The lathe is an older, but really smooth/true machine - I just about have the bossman convinced to put the digital readouts on it..........
Typically I hold +-.0015 on the lathe and +- .005 on the mill unless the application requires closer tolerances - I have done as little as .00015 on the lathe - it's just a tedious thing to have to do.
Anyways, if you have a custom project that needs machining, I can probably do it - I can also generate a cad drawing of whatever the part is as well. Here's a list of materials I typically work with:
Delrin
PVC
Aluminum (2011, 2024, 6061, 7075)
Steel (12L14, ETD 150, 1015, 4130)
Stainless steel (303, 416)
Brass
BeCu
Ti (limited, VERY expensive)
If there is a material not on this list, it doesn't mean I can't do it - we just probably don't have it on the shelf.

Yeah, lightweight spacers, but for a 951- I have some steel ones- way too heavy- can send one for a template- needs to be ~1/8"- allows one to use stock length bolts. How much would it cost to do titanium spacers of this size? What about aluminum...? I would love to have some as my steel ones are way too heavy & starting to rust...
thanks...
thanks...
