I have removed the 2 screws at the top of the small panel that contains the oil pressure, clock and voltmeter instruments. Tried to pull panel out so that I can get to the back of the instruments but no go.
What next?

There are another 2 screws as you descibed above the radio at the bottom of the climate control lever panel which seems to be seperate from the 3 guage panel. Is that all I need to remove , and would not the climate control lever attachments be in the way, or does the whole lot pull out ?

It was last year I took mine out. There are some more screws probably, plus I ripped the connections off the seat belt/ brake warning light. The climate ***** pull off.

One of the few things I know how to do on this car. Just two screws. Pull off control *****. Remove heater control plate. There are friction snaps at the top of the console. You need to grab the top portion of the console and give it a firm pull. It doesn't seem like it will come off, but it does. I was shy about pulling on it and couldn't get it off at first either. Good luck.

Put your thumbs near the screws in the curve and pull hard (yellow circle area). MJ

Easier to just pull the console.
-Pull out ashtray, disconnect pwr mirror wiring, remove 2 main bolts.
-Remove cassette compartment.
-Lift shifter boot up, disconnect fader if still wired in.
-Remove ***** off heater panel. 2 hex screws are underneath, loosen them but don't remove.
-Heater cover pulls off from the bottom, has 2 pins at top , pivots slightly. Once free from 2 screws, just pull down and the cover will come off.
-Remove 2 screws holding in heater cable assembly.
-Remove screws holding console in from the sides.
-Slide console back, working from side to side. Remove all wiring connections when you've pulled it back 3 inches or so. Console is now free. You need to pull up on the back so it will clear the shifter. Also helps to put the shifter in 4th.
It's easier to just do it with brute force like I mentioned above. I never figured out what to do after undoing the 2 screws in the corner of the panel. I've done it more times than I can count, for heater hoses, light replacement, carpet replacement, etc.
