A kid at my school drove an old school 911, which his dad paid for and everybody drooled over it, meanwhile I beat around in my 944, and everybody told me that I should buy a 911 and get a real porsche I just told them if I had a 911 I would sell it and use the money to buy a 951

The reality is that nobody should care. Eff them

is our 930 better than my 951, yes it is. The 930 is a piece of art. My 951 is a utility machine. Totally different car. At the end of the day, who cares.

On a good note, I went to a coffee shop in Phoenix yesterday around 3 am. While in line, a guy asks me, "hey, is that your 944 outside?" I said yeah, nice to meet someone who knows the car. He then said his car was modeled after mine in looks. I said "RX-7?" Yup!! We shot the poo about cars for an hour or so.
What was great is he talked about his car, then i just jumped into suspesnion talk, and he was happy to hear someone say something about a car besides "dude, i wanna crank x amount of hp!" He was a good guy. Patrick was his name i think. He also had an older 325, not the m3 though.

I get wayyyyy more compliments and positive comments about my car than negative. It's not as often as it seemed to be when I first got it, but damn.. when I pickup my mcdonalds at the drive thru and the kid says: "LOVE the Porsha! good nite!" Well that just makes my day!

Or the little kids that see you working with the garage door up and decide to come and watch...that says a lot about a car. When some kid with the attention span of a gnat will sit and stare for a few hours at the body watching you do odd stuff to it...it speaks volumes. I seem to get the same reaction from adults and kids alike when they see it in person. "Oh oh oh can I go for a ride?", " sorry man its only got one seat..."

That sure as hell hasn't been true in my own experiences.

I don't hear the VW comments much at all. It's been so long since the last 944 was made that a lot of people don't even know the original 924/audi/VW connection. Most people that come up and talk to me about my car don't believe it is 21 years old.

My mailman always comments my 944. Last time he said that he was admiring the shine on my porsche. He's a pretty cool guy.

That's how I always correct people who call my 944 a VW..

In reality the he might have just confused your car with a 914. In Germany they were called a Karmann Ghia for the first few years but finally became a Porche when they added the 914-6. There's no shame in the VW name IMO.

This probably wont make me very popular around here but I was actually thinking of getting this for a windshield banner for my 924s track car:

Look, I'm 47 years old, and teenage girls ask me for rides in my 944. I love walking up to the car from any angle, and I still think that they are as beautiful as any car ever made.

Nobody busts me about my car because I am un bustable. I don't attract it, and people sense that about me. I wouldn't care if they did, so why bother. Now go get that zymol, and sex wax that baby.

No, no, no. The Karmann Ghia was a rear-engined VW based on the Beetle. The 914 was a mid-engined joint venture between Porsche and VW and had NOTHING to do with the Karmann Ghia. It was sold as a VW-Porsche in Europe and a Porsche in the US.
