Well... a smart Porsche person would know that's not really true. They own 20%

VW does own Audi, Bugatti, Bently, SEAT, and Skoda. Audi owns Lamborghini.

Hey, since when is having a VW a bad thing? I have a VW that could give Andial951 "The Legend Killer" a run for his money

In 84 when my 944 was made Vw didn't control Porsche that I know of.

Yes the 944 was an audi-designed car that was bought by Porsche (and modified by them I'm sure), but he doesn't need to know that.
Funny, no one has said anything like that with the mean-sounding SFR exhaust on there!

In some cases, if ownership is diluted among hundreds, if not thousands of shareholders, even 5-10% is all you need for controlling interest as long as you can sway the enough votes when it counts. In Porsche's case, if there is the ability to share costs and technology (Cayenne / Tourag) and you claim VW's earnings on your books, you have controlling interest because you directly affect their business decisions.

that's hilarious, my car looks just like yours, and i'm in the van area as well, and i also wish i could afford a 951 but i too am a brokeass student

I get the vw comments all the time, whatever. I used to be (still am i guess) a vw guy, i had a 16V swapped rabbit and guys would always make fun of it (i work at lordco)..... till i took a guy for a ride, he shutup pretty quick and started looking to buy a vw The porsche isn't as fast, but one ride in it and people fall in love with the seats and interior.

porsche owns 20% of vw, and vw in turn bought 20% of porsche... they share platforms (toureg and cayenne) but other than that, they are 2 different companies with a friendly relationship

Your boss is an a**hole. I hate it when people say stupid things. He probably was trying to put you down. Some kind of dog like dominance thing. Either way, you gotta love 50/50 handling with RWD, galvanized body that prevents rust. And you definately gotta love the look. Lots of things to love about the car before you even mention its a Porsche. He just felt like his Ford Tauras was up to par with your "VW" and tried to put you do. He's a jerk.

I think he just wanted to mess around with me. He said this when interviewing me for the job so technically he is not even my boss yet.

My boss rags the whole Porsche line at every chance he can get, but he likes to focus on the '44s as he knows I own two of them.

That's ok... his modified E30 M3 is still slower than my red 951, so I don't really care to propose a rebuttle to his BMW-biased attacks.

Last time I checked, Porsche has always built race-bred sports cars... and BMW has built race-inspired sports sedans. Then again... last time I checked, I didn't really care.

I own both and love 'em both!

Ahem................somebody needs to do their research.

Porsche designed the 924 for VW/Audi. It was to be an Audi sports car. But VW/Audi decided to bag the project because building a sports car in the 70's with the oil crisis was a bad idea (as far as they were concerned). So when the project went belly up, Porsche bought it back from VW/Audi and proceeded with it on their own. The 944 had nothing to do with audi or audi design, other than the fact it was an "evolution" of the 924 by Porsche, and had some audi/VW parts in it from the bin.

joint project that used audi engine/tranny really... I do see it was VW hiring Porsche to design it for them though... I heard that another way

and I think really when it comes down to it.. if you are oversensitive and even slightest bit offended to the 944 being called a VW, then it only plays into the stereotype that Porsche owners really are dicks, and no better than someone who calls them a VW.

And really... up until the most recent models, the 911 truly was a glorified VW Bug. Put a 911 motor on a bench next to a bug motor and most people can't tell the difference and will see they are stikingly similar.

Don't forget... the trans out of this is in our cars:
