Oil Sump question (searched)
Just for clarification (and at the risk of taking one in the jibs), when I change the oil on my 944 I am draining it from the sump. There is no oil drain plug on the block. The drain on the block is for coolant.

Coolant in the block? whaaaa.. you drain oil from the oil pan, the drain plug is on the side of the pan, a 17mm i believe. oops 15mm i have been corrected

DBorror, you are correct. The only one you want is on the oil pan. And it is a 15mm.

Thanks! People seem to use "sump" and "oil pan" interchangeably. Just wanted to make sure I knew exactly what folks were talking about. There is another "plug-like thing" on the right side of my block that seems to have oil collecting on it. What is that then? I thought it was some sort of drain plug? Here is a picture of what I am talking about.

Do not drain the oil from the OPRV... holy moses... leave that thing alone! That's the oil cooler housing with the oil pressure sender. You're going to want to look on the same side of the car, lower, and back about a foot...

It could be your oil sender or even your oil filter leaking. Once you pull your oil filter when you change your oil you will have a better look at everything down there from the top of the engine. Make sure you use a Mahle filter and not a generic filter when you do your oil. I would clean it up real good with carburator cleaner and give it a week then check it again to figure out where it is leaking from. Could even be the comming from the cam tower.
