951 Cab Summertime Pics
Autumn is upon us and I'm reminiscing about summer vacation. Drove over 1,200 miles around Spain between Barcelona, the Pyrenees, and the Biscayne Bay, stopping in so many memorable spots I can't wait to hit the road again!
Half way through the trip we drove up into the Pyrenean mountains in Navarre, and at one point the road to the mountains climbed along a ravine with sheer rock walls on both sides
We visited the town of Roncal, famous for its cured cheese and followed the road up into the mountains, winding mile after mile
The sights were great and we stopped every now and then to take it all in, like on this mountain pass somewhere between Roncal and the province of Huesca
After this pass, we reached the town of Siresa, province of Huesca, where my grandfather was stationed with the military in the 1950s
After crossing from Navarre over into Aragon we visited the town of Sos, where the Catholic King Ferdinand was born in the XVth century
Then back up into the mountains, this time the Pyrenees of Aragon, spending the night in Formigal, renowned for its ski resorts
On the way back down we stopped in the beautiful town of Sallent
It sits on a lake, with the Formigal peak in the background
The roads were unbelievably fun to drive and we took a brief detour to visit Ordesa National Park
In all we spent nearly two weeks on this roadtrip. Here's the ol' 951 climbing yet another mountain pass into France, where we spent a few days in the town of Luchon.
I had never taken this car on such a long trip and it was nice to see that at 15 it still holds its own on all kinds of roads. Porsches are fun!
