Heres the piston that has been causing me all this trouble

You can see in the first pic where the piston was tapping the head.
Took the head to the shop and he said it was fine... Go figure.

I don't see any evidence of the piston hitting the head. How would that happen? Did you mean piston hitting the valves? Again I don't see evidence of that. The only thing I see is the piston skirt broken. That's bad. What did that do to your bore? Where'd the piece that broke off end up at?

Default YIKES!

I didn't see anything on the top of the piston that indicated contact (and I've blown up more than my share of engines). That busted piston skirt scares the crap out of me. That looks like something came in contact there.. otherwise how in the world did that happen!?!? I'd be looking for that metal and having the bore mic'd. YIKES!

To me it looks like that broke when the conecting rod hit it when it was out of the engine

Yeah thats what it looks like.
But we found the broken piece in the oil pan when we took that off before the pistons even came out.
And maybe I didnt take a good pic. But there is a spot where the carbon is cleaner on the top. And it corresponeded to a clean spot on the head. They got only close enough to clean the carbon off it seems.

And the piston hit the HEAD not the Valves.... Ill see if I can find a pic of the head before I took it to the shop.

Oh and the cylinder bores were all surprisingly just fine...

They had to have been making contact.

Wow, for the piston to come in contact with the head three had to be a huge play in the wrist pin. Can you feel the wrist pin being that loose in the connecting rod? I’m not familiar with your previous post but was the engine rattling or making weird noises?

The wrist pins were checked at the shop and said to be within spec. I still won't be reusing it. And it didnt feel loose.
Yeah the engine was making a knock like a SOB. I should also mention that the bearing spun.
I didnt take a picture of that sadly... But both halves of the bearing were paper thin and fused together. Not to mention razer sharp. LOL.

Well that certainly explains the extra play!!! lol I guess youforgot to mention this. Just get another used con rod with a piston then have the crank re ground and use an oversized bearing.

How long did the engine run after the bearings spun?

It ran maybe 5-6 minutes?

Yeah the crank has already been fixed (It was also bent!! LOL)
And I have 3 pistons in the block... Ive been working on this rebuild since mid july. And it would be done right now if I had a replacement tolerance group 2 piston. Which I'm just going to try to buy from a dealer.

For the piston to go so far up, his rod and bearings must be completely gone. With that much metal in the engine, I would look for another engine since you can find a good running complete engine for $400 to $500.

I guess it took me 3 minutes to post my reply above...

The head probably is fine, but while you have it off, might as well touch up the seats and the ports.
