I don't need anything right now. I will need a clutch soon and I'm not sure I want to do it myself. And it never hurts to know where a good shop is.

Let me know if you find a good shop, please, I live in cullman. I should have my belts checked. If you decide to do the clutch job yourself, I would be interested in helping, as a learning experience. BTW I'm parting an 87 944 so shipping would be cheap if you need anything.

sck25jr,
I'm in Madison and it may be a bit before I do the clutch. What is available on your 87?
Right now the belts are off the front of the engine. I'm trying to find the time to get them back on and start driving.

Bring it over to "Crazy Dan's 944'n'more" automotive shop! Seriously, I do just as much work for other people's 944's/951's as my own.......

There's a place called German Automotive Specialists here in Nashville, located in the 1200 block of Lebanon Pk. The VW/Audi crowd seems to think highly of him, and he seems to know 944's, from the few conversations I've had with the owner. Shop looks clean and organized, as well. I know it's a little ways from Huntsville; I have the same problem with my Fiero 2M8, but I have to come down your way, to Toney, AL on Hwy 53 to get reliable service.

I do not know of a shop in Huntsville, but there are two in B'ham that know the cars very well.

Momentum Motorwerks, and Bill Mitchells Eurasian.

Defintely Bill Mitchell's Eurasion Auto in Bham.
He's the only person I trust to touch my car.
He's active in the Alabama PCA region.
Honest and fair. I've been using him since 1994.

Carl at Momentum knows 944's very well. But their part and labor rates are a little high. I have used Bill before and have been pleased but downtown is out of my way most of the time.

Southside Motors in Huntsville work on 944's. Check cost before they do any work. If you can't take it to B'ham and can't do the work yourself then give them a call. Phone 536-1878

Bill Mitchell at Eurasion Auto in B'ham:

First of all, they go out of their way to help you.
Mike is great too.

I've called Bill before to "try" to set up an appt
to get my car fixed (I'm an hour away). He tells
me don't bother, it's something I can fix myself
and proceeds to tell me the procedure, the parts
to replace, and what to watch out for. I have
never heard of a repair shop that does that!

The interior is mostly picked over and scrapped. The drivetrain, suspension and body parts are a good bet. I got some alone time with it last night so I pulled the engine out debating whether or not to keep it for my 86. Why would anyone want to do this for a living? I'm open for offers on it.
