I'm trying to help my father in law, he is looking at a 968 in Maryland (for sale by a private party).
Car is a nice example of a 92 cab, 6 speed, 60k miles and had some recent work done (brakes and new top).
What are the key/ most important items to have checked with this mileage?
I was harping on water pump and timing belt, A/C system, clutch...
Any suggestions based on experience by the 968 crowd?
Also any Porsche shop recommendations for a PPI near Annapolis, MD?
(I am a recent owner of a 928, so any water-cooled front engine Porsche is a bit foreign to me).

The ring and pinion problems in 968's tended to show up by 30k miles, so he should ;likely be okay on that score. The more significant issue he should be concerned about is the cam tensioner chain and variocam pads, you MUST have a knowledgeable mechanic pop th evalve cover off and inspect the cam gears and tensioner pad as a part of the PPI.
I bought a car from MD and had a shop called Tif's (I think thats it, anyway) that I would NOT recommend. If they can't find oil leaks on the engine tray that my car had, then they certainly can't do a proper PPI on a 968.
Regards,

At Speed Motorsports in Savage, MD
Just outside of Columbia, about 30 min.s from Annap.
They are a Speed World Challenge GT team (running a Porsche 996 Cup and a Cosworth powered custom built Volvo) and they have a customer side servicing street & customer race cars

I take my 87 944S to Autocentro in Rockville, tel. no is 301-340-2444.they work on Audi's, Porsche's BMW's. Look for Paulo or Albino. If I'm not mistaken Rockville is about 45 min away from Anapolis.
