Hello,

I'm a newbie 944 owner, anyone have recommendations on reputable shops in the Montgomery County Maryland area?

I grew up in MD and NOT very Porsche friendly

Except the D.C. area. I would guess a Porsche dealer might be your only option.

IMA is in Fairfax...not to far away. Ivan does a lot of work on 944s and is very good and reputable.

HUH? You are kidding right? Nice enough guys but none Club Race and to quote the shop foreman "I don't care if another Porsche ever comes through the door".

But they are nice......

IMA! There is this guy named Chris that works there that really knows his sh*t and owns a 944 turbo, make that two 944s. Chris kicks ***!

Seriously, I would still go to IMA if I moved a hundred miles away.

Hi,

I am a new member & I work in Montgomery Co. I found a mechanic that is good and honest. He has worked on my 89 928 & 91 944. He will be up front with you and tell you what he is comfortable with. His name is Eddie and can be reached at 301-949-8500 ( for the record I am not affiliated in any way, shape or form with his shop)

For my 928 he has done the following:
1- Changed all belts
2- New water pump
3- New power steering pump
4- New fan switch
5 - AC service
6- Flex plate service

For the 944:

1- AC service
2- Oil change
3- AC retaining clip
4- Cooling system service

Due for: Belt service

I have had great luck with Funktion Auto in Dulles, VA. The owner's name is Walid and he races a Radical locally. Tim in his shop knows Porsche's very well. Give them a try.

Tif's foreign car service in Annapolis. Honest guy and personal service. Alot of Porsche owners take their cars there. He specializes in Porsche's. He owns a '01 Turbo, so he should know.

Tif's did a HORRID job on a PPI for me, so they won't get a favorable recommendation from me. They seriously didn't have a clue.

I love these kinds of posts because there are so many opinions and everybody has had different experiences. Here are my thoughts:

IMA - Heard good things about them and Ivan
Intersprot - Heard good things as well, but also heard of being surprised by final bills $$
Funktion - Good rep thus far but seems to be more expensive than everyone else
Currys - The only shop I would go to if I "had" to is their Dulles/Sterling location but I'm not impressed with them at all
Tifs - Heard pretty much what Scott mentioned above

I take my car to Autothority PitStop in Alexandria. Personally never had an issue with anything they work on, but I have heard other opinions when the company was under a previous owner a while back.
