Default Should I swap cars? Im tempted to say the least...

Well, You can read what ive done to my car in my signature. When i bought the car the A/C was removed, and the power steering, and the normal seat belts. Dont get me wrong, I love the setup, but I drive the car daily, and its been somewhat annoying if Im just running around town. I do enjoy brining the car to autocrosses though, its definatly set up perfectly for that.

Sooo... I brought the car in for service from where I bought it, and they want to buy the car back. And. this car popped up for sale very close to me. I have gone to see it, though I am yet to drive it, and im very tempted to swap cars.

So, what do you guys think? Fully race prepped 951.. to a street 951 that has alot of engine upgrades?

Thanks.

Jeff-they say the devil you know is better than the one you don't. Yours has a lot of really nice upgrades, and although it's more track oriented, you know the history of it and what you've done to it and what needs to be done. You may wind up getting the 86 (w/ different offsets so you can't run a lot of wheels) and finding things out as you go...if I were in your shoes I would hold onto your current car. Just my opinion...good luck!

Sound advice Stephen. Thanks for the reply. I really do love my car, I may be better off just putting the A/C back in and Power steering just to make for a more comfortable drive daily.

We need to meet up at some point, unfortunatly its getting cold again!

Agreed-It would be great to meet up-cold doesn't bother me as long as there's no snow on the ground!

Tough call Jeff. I would take a good look at that '86, but be very picky (for the reasons Steve suggested).

Also, out of curiosity, are you running a true manual rack or a converted power rack?

How much would you be selling your current car back for?

If its a difference of $1-2k less than the asking price of the car you are thinking of buying i would say to look around for a cheap $3k beater / daily driver and hold onto your current Turbo. You may not have the space for this though.

How much would you be looking to get your car for right now?

You can buy a good used A/C pump for $50 + PS pump for about the same. Get an El cheap O R13A conversion kit for about $30(includes fitting, R13A, & gauge).

You could go new on all that stuff, but that is kind of a waste!

Allan - Unfortunatly its a converted power rack.

Jon - Id be selling back for 10k

Schneller - not a bad idea. Racing seats and the 5-point harnesses dont really help the whole getting in getting out situation either though.

I know I probably sound like a baby with this, my car has an awesome set up, and I love it... but when you drive it every day its just not the right setup. The amount of time the car spends at the track is far less then the time it spends around town.

How many miles are on your car? What condition is it in?

Jeff, consider doing what i said then. Take the $2 or 3k extra you would have spent on the other 944 Turbo and put it towards a cheap beater. You can get a cheap 100k mile Honda Civic that will last you another 100k miles before you can sell it for half of what you paid for it!

i bought a set of reclining seats that have holes in the back for the harness and have recepticle for the 3 pt belt installed too. they were great on the 3 hour drive back from pocono.

i also have a set of cobra seats that dont recline and need mounts

i also have the factory seats with 100k on them

something has to go. the two sets of seats were bought last week. i suggest you get a set of comfortable seats and bolt them in. after you have comfortable seats the other issues rapidly fade away.

and it is stone gray, not slate gray!!! go to a german/english dictionary to confirm.

Dan - 105k miles, very very good condition.

Jon - Will consider.. space is somewhat limited and insurance on two cars isnt something id exactly like to do. Thanks for the idea though.

Tom - Its not that the seats are uncomforable, I actually reallylove the seats. Getting in and out though with the huge side bolsters and strapping in can be a little annoying. I should just put some 3point belts in though that would take care of that problem.

For me atleast, addind a mid '90s Honda Civic to my insurance policy is only another $200 for 6-months. I am 21 and have no tickets or anything. That is listing the Civic as the primary use vehicle. Your NJ rates will probably vary.

exactly. getting in and out is the PITA. put reclining seats in the car and soften the shocks for the winter. watch the car become more useable.
