Is this milkshake residue?

Default Is this milkshake residue?

Pulled the head and I saw this greasy green webbing between the cylinders.
It appears to be at the level of the antifreeze before it was drained.
Is this remnants of a MILKSHAKE oil in antifreeze?

It's real thin feels like chicken fat.
In the picture you can see the film and then below it the antifreeze...
What you experts think???

hard to tell from photo..are you sure it is not just oil that came from the head when you removed it?

yeah... it's the green looking stuff in the top part of the head. It is hanging in freespace so I doubt it came when I pulled the head.
He drained the antifreeze about a week before I came over to pull the head and when I did there was this greasy greenish slime plugging up a couple of headgasket holes. It is very thin and feels just like chicken fat.
It is still just hanging there webbed between the cylinder walls. About 4 inches above the antifreeze level.
I wish I had seen the antifreeze he pulled out.

I had the same thing when I changed my antifreeze this summer. I had my mechanic buddies look at it & they said it didnt look like what they had seen from 944's with milkshake problems. I figured it could just be an excess of built up grime and dirt.

Really?? WOW that is real scary.....
But that would be waaaaaaayyyyy cool if I don't have to mess with the oil cooler stuff.

How long had it been since you changed your antifreeze prior to finding the slime?

From my records it had been 1.5 yrs. I had a crack in my lower radiator hose. So I changed the coolant as while I had it drained. The bucket that I drained the coolant into had a film accross the top similar to what you are describing. I have however, kept a close eye on my coolant and oil since the change. So far, I havent come up with anything too troublesome. But you can never be too cautious. It's too bad you didn't see the coolant that was taken out, that would certainly help.

Both my buddies I was working with have several years experience working on porsches, bmws, and audis at a local shop not too far from my place. I figured their opinion was worth something.

Hmmmm... is this what happens if you don't use that phosphate free antifreeze maybe??

If you have the head off, it's relatively easy to do oil cooler seals. The exhaust manifold is half the battle. Get the alignment tool for under $20 and just do them.

Ya, better to do preventative maintainence now. Even if it ends up you didn't need it. If the head is already off, and its only $20, I'd do it.

I vote do the cooler seals while you have it apart. You can do it from the top with the head off and it beats laying under the thing and getting every manner of crud in your face doing later. and you have already drained all the fluids.

One more vote for doing the seals now. It's a PITA to do it from underneath.

Well, yes and probably a history of mixing incompatible anti-freeze types too.

I just finished doing them on the 85.5. do the oil cooler seals now.
38 bucks for the seal kit. 15 for the alignment tool.
done.
