Talking 86 944 Turbo For Sale, original owner.

I've got a new friend here in the Western Cleveland area selling his 1986 944 Turbo. He is the original owner. I've looked over the car and here is what I saw-

Martin new what he was doing when he ordered this car. Limited slip trans w/cooler, sunroof delete, sport seats, sport suspension. She is guards red with the light grey interior. Never on the track, never been in a wreck. Martin races Lotuses with the SCCA, this was his street car. All documentation. repainted passenger door and rear quarter due to vandalism, key scratch. Original clutch. Very good condition with 107k miles. Mature owner is very knowledgeable about the car and open with minor maintenance issues. (power locks, worn sway bushing) Asking 11,900.

This is a very desirable well optioned original car. There are no surprises, I would say this car has been well taken care of and never abused. E-mail the seller at MHDeuropa (at) SBCglobal.net or PM me, I've seen the car and can answer some q's. Now for some pics! (Car is also listed in the Rennlist Classifieds)

Isn't that the sport suspension he lists?

Very nice car, I'll be interested to see if anyone on here buys it.

Nice! Amazing that someone would keep a car that long!!

That would be a black and tan interior, not light grey, right?

Not tan or grey. It's linnen.

Look at Michelle and Wes's car. Theirs are tan.

I know Martin through the Lotus club, and saw the car several years ago. A real gentleman, and I don't think you could ask for a better previous owner of a car -- one of the most knowledgeable and conscientious owners I have ever met. You can't go wrong with this car, and you'd be getting a whole lot for your money.

(I have no personal interest in this -- just giving an honest opinion where one is well deserved)

The interiors of these beauties caused some confusion, so let me clear it up (I've got the color charts). In 86 the "tan" interior (with black dash and trim) is called "Light Grey" in the factory book. That is the left pic. That color stayed until 88. In 89, They lightened it a bit and called it "Linen Grey" on the right. I have heard the 86-88 color called "Bone", I think that is a good description of it. Neither of them look like the grey (or gray) crayon in my box, they both look tan or off white. ALSO, there is a very TAN color on the flip side of the scanned sheet that is called "Champagne" and very yellow/tan. It is much darker than the color samples I show here. Yes, I should scan in these books, they are odd size and don't fit in the scanner very well. I'll get to work on that.

This 86 Turbo has the "sport suspension option". They are supposedly adjustable Koni's, but not like the Turbo S, you need to remove them to adjust them, the owner said. The tops of the front shocks are not capped like the stock suspension, they have an exposed allen hole in the top. (maybe this is what all other shocks look like, I did not compare). The brakes are the standard 86 Turbo brakes.

Thanks Tony, I got the same impression from Martin. Nothing like a great character witness for a seller!

Thanks for clearing that up Dan. That's very odd. It doesn't look grey at all. I wonder why the called it that.

Crazy porsche and their crazy colors. That being said, my 86 951 has the linen interior and it looks exactly like that.

On the group drive I did over the weekend there was an S2 that had the linen color interior but it looked completely different though - did they change the linen color after a couple of years as well?

Bill, I'm guessing you have the 86 "light grey" as in the left chart, it just LOOKS like a good color for linen. "Linen" interior wasn't available until 89, which is what I guess the S2 is you saw. Just a tad lighter, more off-white than tan.
Lets see if it easier to see in a picture. The first one is the 86-88 Light Grey.
The second shot is my linen grey from 89. Sorry, not trying to be picky, just clearing up the colors.

YES.Believe it or not these are two different colors.

Bah, porsche must have done this on purpose so that you'd have to buy the color chart thingy from them to figure out what color your car is... But yeah, the S2 I saw was a little lighter and closer to a white color than mine, so that makes sense.

Thanks for the info though. I'd been thinking it was a linen interior just because it seemed like a tan/cream white color instead of a grey. That'll help if I ever get around to finding some sport seats to recover.
