Yes, it was the OEM part number . . . . I was obviously an older DME and the screws had been tampered with at some point, I notice those things. It was not recently, but from the overall tone the seller has exhibited towards me, I think I am getting hosed.
Almost immediately, he wanted me to file a claim with UPS as he insured it and was sure they damaged it. I have been down that path before, and they blame it on poor packaging, and it turns into a huge pissing battle with no winners.
I feel like crap, I mean, all I did was install it just exactly like I did Scott's, and his works great. Am I the bad guy in this? I guess so, sheit, all I wanted was a working DME . . . . .
Maybe in the future I will avoid any and all purchases of electronics on eBay - but I have never ever had any trouble before . . . . .

I'm done with buying electronics on eBay. Too many idiot sellers that have no concept of what a static bag is, or basic handling of electronic components. I tried twice to buy a motherboard for an old pc, twice from two different sellers they shipped them without static protection. One guy owned up to his mistake and refunded my money, the other guy dropped out of sight and I had to have paypal pull the money back. He must have done a bunch of bad deals all at the same time. He originally had 100% good feedback, a week after I bought mine he had 4 negative, by the time I got my money back he had 10 negative, then was no longer a registered user.
But I'm off track here. If you can't get send this one back you could try resoldering it. It could be a solder joint going bad and if you say it's been opened maybe somebody has tried that already. Or they could have done it wrong and that's why it only sort of works. Either way good luck.

Thanks - I have my old one and will try and see if I can find someone local to work on it.
Worst case, I'll order a rebuilt one from a Rennlist sponsor . . . .

After sleeping on it, I hope for a quick resolution.
Either a functioning DME or my money back.
I sent the DME back to him yesterday, he should have it by Wednesday, I figure if I have not heard anything by the end of next week I'll post the first negative feedback I have ever given.
Hurts, I can not really afford to loose the money, expensive lesson I guess ....
I want to drive soooooooo bad!

*** Update ***
Finally did get my money back on the eBay deal. Members were able to come up with a DME locally for me, and it works great.
Car is running great, looking great and feeling great.
New antenna arrived, need to install it, have a few other minor issues, time to drive!!!

Good to hear!
Any time you can hold ebay's feet over the fire, do it, for the fees you pay maybe they'll figure out a better way of doing buisness.
I like to think you will have a better sucess rate buying from fellow listers!
