Default Tire Gurus

I had 15" 225/50 tires on my na and want my 16" wheels to be almost the same size in height but actually a 1/2" shorter. The 16" Fuchs have 205/55 on them now but too tall for my application. What size tire do I need to be 1/2 shorter than my previous 225/50/15 using 16" wheels

You can't do it. At least not in any tire I know of. Just run the 225/50 R16. It is actually the STOCK diameter. a 225/50 R15 is really smaller than stock. Why are you running 16" wheels?

best you can do is a 225/45 16, which is maybe a smidge smaller diameter than what you have now. Stick with that size unless you're doing insane lowering. That diameter tire looks good on the 944's... I run them too

The ES100 is $96 in that size at tirerack.com

was reading a review for the YOKO AVS 100's on tire rack and a guy siad he was going to switch his 944 to the 225 / 50 R15 in the rear and the 205's up front per "PCA recommendation"...any credence to this? i know this is the stock 16" set up.

below is actual quote..

"However, I am going to put these 215x60x15s on my wifes 98 Accord and purchase the 225x50x15s for the rear and 205x55x15s for the fronts. I do not recommend the stock 215x60x15 for 944s inspite of what the Tirerack consultants say. Go with the lower profile per PCA"

chinatown944 do you have any pics of your car with the 225 / 50 set up? doesn't that empty the wheel wells out?

215/60/15 is the stock size for the 15' inch wheels on the 15x7 PD's, Fuch's and cookie cutters.

If you want to improve the neutral feeling of the car go with a 225/50/15 on ALL four wheels. This also gives you much more flexability with rotating the tires around for maximum life. If the tire is directional you will get the most use with hard driving. Swap front to rear, then flip the tires on the wheels. A 205 width upfront will give the car a bit more understeer with less rubber upfront. A 60 profile some may say has more tire flex than a 50 profile but a more comfortable ride.

For the 16's you are probably running 16x7 and 16x8 wheels. You can also do a 225/50/16 all around but i would leave the 8 inch rim on the rear unless you could find another set of 2x 16x8's to throw on the front. So depending if the tires are directional or just need to be facing a certain direction.. you can rotate side to side to maximize usage and life of the tires.

If you are going just for looks.. 225/50/16 on the front and 245/45/16 on the rear. I have those sizes for my summer wheels and they look good and fill the wheel wells fine. My car is also lowered about an inch all around. No wheel gap in the front and minimal.. maybe enough to get one finger between the top of the tire and the fender in the rear.
