Default 968 struts on a 944S

I put a set of 968 front struts, spindles and control arms on my '87 S which allowed me to put the 4 piston Brembo's on all 4 corners. This replaced my old very worn out struts. My car now sits up in the front quite high. It was previously level with Weltmeister 200lb. lowering springs in front. I expected it to be a little higher but I am at about 26" at the fender in front - up from about 24 3/4". Are the 968 front spindles the same ride height as the 944?

I know that Paragon has a set of springs that are supposed to be good for about an inch drop. I guess I'll have to get a set unless I want to go rally racing.

I'll prolly get flamed, but what I would do is cut 1/2 a coil off the top of each spring using a cut off wheel (AIR POWERED!!!) flooded with a garden hose while cutting it (so as not to disturb the temper of the metal)

Cutting 1/2-1 coil off WILL NOT hurt the spring, or the car, and will get your drop where you want it.

A shorter spring is actually stiffer as well, so you'll increase the spring rate SLIGHTLY by doing so as well...

Ive cut many springs like this with no issues, don't over do it and you'll be fine. Ive taken off 2 coils before and it was OK (VW Jetta)

The welts lowered the car about 1 inch. The car is probley lowered in the back also, which made it sit level with the welt springs. These cars are easy to lower in the back 1 inch.

Zoxx, I sent a PM.

Even before the Welts, the car was never this high in front. Of course they were probably the OE springs with 200K miles. The 968 springs are pretty low mileage.

Still have them. They are pretty low mileage. Let me know if you are interested.

I'll agree with you. As long as they're not progressives in particular.

I cut the springs 1 coil, and bent the end to resemble the OE spring end. It's much better now. It is still squatted in the rear a little, but looks much better. I'm going to let everything settle in, then maybe install my 968 torsion bars and level it out.
