Default Uber-rare P-cars of today ?

I was reading the thread on the history of each of the 944 Turbo Cup cars yesterday (missed a lot of it previously), and then randomly picked up an Excellence yesterday w/ a similar article on the history of each America Roadster from the early '50s. So it got me to thinking, 20, 30, 40 years from now, are there going to be any "special" cars, ones where there are, say, less than 50 of them made? What struck me about both of the above articles was how unique each one of the cars seemed, from the build to the cars usage.

Those are the sort of things that give some of these cars real character, something that can't be said for 99% of the rest of the cars out there (ooohh, how 'bout a history of every single Honda Accord? ).

So, is the factory still making these tiny little runs that are barely even a footnote, production-wise?

Though more P-cars are made these days, I think a few stand out as becoming more collectable in the future:

Street cars:
Carrera GT (Obviously)
996 & 997 GT3
996 GT2

Race cars:
911 GT3 Cup

I also think the first time in US 911 GT3RS sounds promising, but personally, I think it will only be slightly more collectable than a 'regular' GT3. Even though it was lightened, the GT3RS is not much more than a 'base' GT3 with extra badging. Now if Porsche AG ever brought a real seat GT3RS to America, that would be something to consider...

I think a few that can be considered rare cars are the 50th annaversary 911 PCA club coupe, in that only 50 where made and hey came in a special Color Azzuro Blue. Also from talking to people I know that have been ot the factory and a couple of converstation I had at work with Porsceh I think that 04 550 Boxster would be a collectable in the future as less then 2000 where made(1953) and it was the only time you could get a Porsche other than a C-GT in GT silver Metallic at a no cost option. The engineers say that that is one of the Best boxster they produced and that they really out the souls into that car.

IMHO, I don't think special color anniversay edition cars become any more collectible than regular cars. A little bit -- but not much. It's just paint, and p-cars have always been about performance -- especially amongst enthusiasts.

There are rumors about a Cayman RS, man I wish I had the cash right now to buy a Cayman S, in my opinion, it looks better than the 996 and 997.
Hers a couple links: link 1

Even if there isn't an option for a more powerful motor than the one the Cayman S has, there are definately going to be transplants.

I would say 959 or RS are going to be even more collectible/rare in the future.

Well both the Club Coupe and the 550 Boxster both have performance upgrades, PCA CC has x51 standard, and the 550 Boxster has 264HP instead of the regular 240 in hte Boxster S so I think thats what could make it a collectable car.

I'm very clearly biased, but I have to think ALL the "Cup" cars are undervalued at the moment.

For example, comparing a Turbo Cup 944 to a normal 944 Turbo (no matter how much the standard car is modified) is like comparing a built-up 1965 Mustang (worth maybe $30,000) to a 1965 Shelby Mustang GT-350 (worth $200,000-ish).

It's not just the changed components from a standard car to a Cup car, it's the fact that they are true, Porsche-factory-built race cars.

Ultimately I think the factory race cars will be worth much more than they are now.

Side note: Here's the thread mentioned in the first post about the Turbo Cup cars:

917, 959, 901, 911 RS or RSA. . . In no particular order.

924 CGT is probably on the list too although nowhere near the others in terms of desirability and/or collector value. Same for the 968 turbo. It'd get decent money but nowhere approaching what one of the others would.
