Oh don't get your panties in a wad - fixing wrecked/abandoned 944's is what I do - so I will always advocate going that route. I have parted a 924 though, so I am not without sin.......
Doesn't mean I won't beat on the "fix it" drum though - do what you must, like you said........other cars need parts too.

- your last comment there Daniel had me chuckling - especially with your avatar where you a safetly perched behind what looks like a very large gun I gotta admit I feel quilty about parting this car even though it is pretty obvious that is the only fiscally sane route to take. At least like Albert said the parts will live on. Would have been really sad if the car had burned up and there literally wasn't anything left.
I just keep wondering what it is about the 944 obsession....doesn't seem like for me at least there is another car out there that provides so much enjoyment and such a loyal and deserved following.

I really was trying to be lighthearted with the whole "humanity" comment.......
Oh well - did yall take pictures of the dissasembly? If so, I would like to have all those pics - I am rebuilding a 951 from a pile of parts that someone ELSE took apart. I do not have very much experience with 951's, so pictures of how it is assembled would be GREATLY appreciated!

I've read about really good body men who can fix things like that... they have this huge banger that can straighten frames like that.
99.9% of all body men are quick fix bondo/filer and panel replacement pros and know nothing or very little about shaping metal or fixing dents.

Mexico? You need not venture that far my friend!
My brother had a Chevy Sprint that was sideswiped across the front end when he stuck the nose out too far. The only tools required to put it back together? To straighten the frame, simply park it by the curb and winch the car sideways against the curb till it looks pretty much straight. Amazingly, the alignmant came back to being semi-normal too!
Now, you just take a hammer to the panels, weld scrap steel where the panels don't line up, and screw the bumper back on with some sheet-metal screws, add off-road driving lights to replace the headlights (which are sitting in a yard in a million pieces with the cooling fans) and rig up a cheapo electric fan from a junk yard and it'll last you at least another 6 months!

Haha, I want to send an "after" pic to the guy we bought my brother's 944 from........the car looked like it had been taken care of for a long time and then beat on/neglected by the previous owner. He was some punk-*** kid that never showed on time to meet us and had no clue about the car except it was a "porsh"..........

WOW, Josh! I totally missed this thread, what a nice 951 that was! I support your decision to part it too, even though it will be hard to pull apart a car that nice. It looks like you and Albert are making great progress. Good luck with the rest!

I missed this one tooo..... holy crap, my boner is just starting to go down!! LOL
well played Josh! I don't care who says what, going that far upside down on a car wrecked that hard makes no sense. I know very few that would consider paying real money for a repaired car that had been wrecked that hard..... I certainly wouldn't.... In the back of your head you would always wonder if that was the reason that new alignment doesn't seem quite right????// or why there is that odd vibration, etc, etc, No way man, NOT ME

Yep - she was a beaut!! I just got back the other wheel from the repair shop. I am going to bolt them onto my car for just a bit I can't resist.......way to expensive for my blood though. I'll have to post pics.
Ian - if you're in town this weekend you should stop by and take a look. Is your new turbo working yet? Can't wait to see that car roll up

Can't wait as they are going onto my S2 with the suspension....coilovers in the rear!! When I saw that I was in hog heaven. The fronts have 450lb springs on them....from what I hear that is going to be a stiff ride.
I will be keeping my old brakes and suspension for when I sell the S2 because I do not plan on parting with the big reds ever!!

Just a heads up guys.... I bought the motor and various other bits from Josh and Albert. It's all going into my 88 951S for now while I figure out what to do with the original engine. It was time for a valve job (did not like the #3 leakdown), bottom end, belts, turbo, clutch, etc etc etc and when I saw the engine on eBay, I asked another buddy if we should just buy it and share parts (he needs a new long block).... one thing led to another and I just decided to buy it.
