odd humming from suspension... help please!!! -car taken off streets... scary!
alrighty... I recently put in new balljoints in my 924S... I also rebuilt the power steering rack, and put in new tie rod ends, and everything... before I did the rebuild, whenever I'd back up and turn, or turn lock to lock foward, there would be a click in the suspension.. I suspected the tie rod ends, as when I'd taken them off before, the pickle fork ate the boots...
Fast foward to after the rebuild... driving along, and noticed a humming sound (and very slight vibration in the pedals) that is vehicle speed dependant, showing up around 30 MPH... I didn't think much of it at first... the clicking when I turned lock to lock was still there, as was the click when I was backing and turning...
fast foward again to yesterday... humming gets a little louder.... I check tire pressure, and they were about 1-2 PSI low... I filled the tires back to spec, drove along, humming still there... determine that my sunday would be dedicated to fixing that, and doing my over-due timing belt tension... (which was done successfully).
this morning, I put the car in the air, and check the front wheel bearings by rocking the wheel in and out (on the top and bottom of the wheel) and determined my front wheel bearing needed adjustment... but for ****s and grins, I pulled it out, cleaned it, inspected it (it's good... was put in about a year ago) re-packed it, and re-installed... adjusted to where the wheel didn't rock anymore, and was good. took the car on the test drive....
humming still there, as loud as it was yesterday. the tires are good, the ball joints and tie rod ends are new, and the front wheel bearings are good. I have absolutely no idea what could be causing this anymore... and that damn click!!!!! I'm thinking the bearings in my shock towers are dirty?
any insight would be very much appreciated, and will be investigated to the fullest! thanks!

one more quick note: just double checked the adjustment on the wheel bearing and it's still good...
also, the humming doesn't change on different road surfaces (I.e. asphault, concrete, etc.) so I'm assuming it's not road noise from the tires...

Check the big eccentric for setting castor. Mine worked it's way loose once and make a clucking when I would turn a certain way, or wen I slowed down. That wouldn't explain the humming thoguh. Have you checked the rear wheel bearings?

Yeah - could they have been damaged while loose? I'm thinking so. Or the rears - did you check them?

did not check the rears... do you do the same shake-test? I'll also be checking the shock mountings and camber thingys as per epic's suggestion.
Thanks guys... damn this work!

sometimes the wheel bearings can make noise despite the fact that they do not shake much. I was experiencing a "gravelly" feeling on high-speed right hand turns in my car. The wheel bearings did not seem that loose when I attempted to shake the wheel, but I replaced them anyway and the difference was night and day.
