Nope, I looked for it when I bought the car, not in owner's manual. Good, less excess weight to drag around. Seems my sunroof is aluminum, anyway my GPS magnetic antenna will not stick to it.

It's really a shame that the factory didn't use a cable and lever like Toyotas. You'll never see me driving a Toyota, but I have to admit that a mechanical system would offer more adjustment, less weight, and be just as convenient. They figured that out right.

Yeah, but cables tend to snap, and they're a bitch to replace. If a motor burns out it's a sinch to replace. Just one of the reasons to use electric stuff.
On a side note - people often say that the factory hatch release was a joke, because they could never get it to actually open the hatch due to its weight. Therefore the hatch release is just meant to unlatch it so someone else at the back of the car can lift it up. However, ever since I put new hatch shocks on, the hatch release has been successful in opening up my hatch all the way. Did they just have weaker shocks back then?

The damn hatch release never worked on my 944 with new shocks.
Agreed, a mechanical wire would last longer than the POS motor.
Don
Whenever I drive to an airport or something that has hightend security, I always get the "pop the trunk we have to look inside" and I say " Just look inside"

Ok guys, maybe US cars didn't get the hatch release switch in 83 but I AM CERTAIN it was availble on european 944's in 83. I know because I had an 83 944 with it fitted.

The release on my 87 works MOST of the time, and it just pops it open - you have to walk around and give it a lift before it will open by itself. I really don't use it very often, most of the time I'd rather just use the key.
