Default Should I grab this 951? Tempting me.. PICS

I have located a somewhat local 951 '86 with good records and interior with 125k. It needs paint and some engine cleaning but otherwise described as a probable DD. Has 2 door dings and one baseball size crease on rr fender. Good title with no accident history on report. All for under 6k. Am I crazy to let this one pass? I kinda wanted an 87-88 but Im sure more$ is needed.

I know, you want pics right?

Those seats above are just vinyl upholestry from a shop. I don't think they will look so hot in person but better than cracked leather I suppose.

I turned it down Sat but am reconsidering. Maybe I should say "SOLD"

Oh, and the owner has had it 9 years with good belts/wp.

Yeh, I know, not nearly as nice as your new ride. Not the best color either, but still nice. I think it's saphire met. maybe? I like black and red for a 951.

Looks nice, except for the pinstripes. My S2 had pinstripes when I got it, first thing I did was get them off!

I would decide what route you want to go with the paint prior to purchase. That seems like the deal maker or breaker.

The dash has a few 1" small cracks and the tires are new. A/C works too!
The color isn't the biggest issue I guess. I like the later wheels and not crazy about running spacers to do so. Would the ecentric spacers be a must? Im thinking they would If I wanted to rune some turbo twists.

He said the turbo boost was hitting 2 bar. Is that about the norm for a slightly mod'd 951? Just chips and shimmed wastegate?

I went last week and drove the car and it was quite a ride.

Holds boost nicely and it looks ok.

There were a few things that kept me from taking the car home with me though.

There were a few interior bits missing, the crease in the rear panel, the dash had a carpet cover so I couldn't tell if it was cracked, various other dings around the car, the exhaust was spitting out wet soot on startup( don't know what that means but it was new to me), and the deal breaker was the paint. The paint was ok, but over 40% of the car was flaking off clearcoat was was quite visible from a distance. I also don't really like the early offset. IMO opinion the car wasn't worth my money but I'm pretty cheap. Factor in getting the car resprayed and see how much its worth you.

Hey Dean,
I contacted those folks about the car as well but the paint is what held me back. I am sure that there will be some folks that disagree with me but you never want to change the paint color on these cars and it is usually very difficult because of the cost to repaint them back to the factory look. For that price range I would look at this car over on the pelican board.....of course I am a little biased http://forums.pelicanparts.com/showt...hreadid=297407

Looks Like a nice car, but I would keep looking for the car you want! Don't buy it if it's just a conveniece of being in your area, unless your thinking of turning it around and selling for a higher price. When I found my car, I had to travel across 2 states to find the one I wanted, and it was well worth it. Don't settle for less just cause it's close. Just something to think about! Good luck!

I know prices are higher back east but I paid $4600 a Sapphire Metallic, perfect paint/body, interior, Guru MAP w/ Link, 155K miles, and new S-03's in 2003. I think you might do better spreading out your search area more and waiting for the right car. I wish I had kept that car now, the new owner ran it low on oil, spun #2, and it's been sitting now for 2-1/2 years under a car cover in a storage building...sad ending to a beautiful car. Good Luck on your search, personally I'd pass on any car with paint issues like you describe.

Thanks for the comments guys. My first initial gut feeling was to let it pass, I should trust my intuition and do just that.

Josh, an S2 at around 6k would be great too. Give me a pm if you come across more. I emailed the above mentioned S2 owner.

Thanks again.
