Default tranny mount going bad

has anyone ever heard of a tranny mount going bad? I know it is a solid block of rubber but i have a strong feeling my mount on my 87 944 NA needs to be replaced...the tranny didn't line up perfectly after i got through doing my clutch job...

Yes, they will go bad just as motor mounts do. Post a picture to show us what condition they are in.

Late 944 tranny mounts will fail. The rubber can tear and/or separate from the metal housing. When they do, the rear end wants to slide back and forth, putting extra strain on your torque tube bearings.

If you grab hold of the trany, how much lateral play should you have?

Ouch, I think mine does that. I've been trying to figure out why when I step on the gas and hit a small bump it jiggles front to back a little. But only when hitting a small bump or hole in the road and accelerating at the same time.

Anyway to visualy or physicaly inspect it?

I feel my CV joints knocking and I can literally move the tranny up and down and back and forth...I think it is to the point where it is affecting my clutch engagement...My motor mounts are brand new. I do get tons of shifter vibration at high rpm and my shift points change and I can't tell if I'm in gear or not at times.

I have a solid tranny mount going in the rubber tranny mounts place...just like in the race car...yeah, it may be louder and the car might vibrate more, but oh well, this 944 if getting a more sporty suspension anyways.
