Default Moving to Chicago

My wife and I never thought that we'd leave New York, but we've done it. I got offered a job in Chicago a few weeks ago that was too good to pass up, and so we're making the move. We're currently looking to buy in Lakeview or Lincoln Park, and we've just found a buyer for our apartment in Brooklyn Heights.

I'm still in a bit of a state of shock, as things are happening pretty fast. I actually drove the 951 out to Chicago this week (stopping for a 2 day DE at Summit Point in west virginia, which is awesome!). The total trip was about 850 miles, plus about 250 miles at Summit Point, and the car performed flawlessly the entire way.

Anyway, just thought I'd drop a message to introduce myself to the Chicago-land folks and thank all the metro NY rennlisters I've met up with over the past few years (AndyK, Z-man, and Tom Radow will be missed in particular!). I'm thinking about signing up for the mid-September Indiana PCA DE at Putnum Park and the October Chicagoland PCA weekend at Blackhawk farms. I don't know how much time I'll have for Porsche stuff outside of that in the next two months, but I'd love to meet some rennlisters out here in Chicago sometime soon.

Welcome to Chicago Neal!!!

I am signing up for the CIR Putnam DE also (hoping to squeeze in the additional friday track time) and was just there last week with MOR. I can't wait to go back. See you out there!

Cheers,

Neal,

Hello and Welcome! I'm in the western 'burbs, and new to the list, but have been instructing DE for about 8 or 9 years. I mostly do track events with the car, Road America, Blackhawk, Autobahn. I always go to the Club Race at Road America. So if you get a chance, come to the Burbs!

Enjoy, It's a great city. I miss it dearly.

Try a beef at Portillo's.. Pizza at Malnati's.. and a hot dog at Gold Coast dogs.
Then take in a Cubs game- The Cubs are terrible, but Wrigley is amazing.

I love Chicago in the summer. I would move there but for the winter weather, which would probably kill a Florida born kid like myself. Enjoy!

Neal,
I am going to miss you. But then again I may not be far behind. I applied for jobs within the organization all over the country. I have a few people interested in the house, and if i get the transfer I am outta here.

your old man can fill you in on the details of my job. I am not part of the voluntary buyout, but will be part of the involuntary layoff (that everyone denies will happen) if i dont switch divisions.

I adapted quite easily! (FL born and bred ) I LOVE seasons, having never experienced them before. We just came through a heat wave up here (in FL it's just called July) and now we're back in the low to mid 80's. Soon we'll feel the distinct feel of fall in the air and, believe it or not, the leaves will actually change color! It's a miracle rarely seen in FL. Pretty amazing stuff. Oh, yeah, they actually have ice that falls from the air up here and you can wax boards and slide on top of it. Craziest thing in the world. You don't need a motorboat to do it either!
